Dracthyr Visage - Why just male Elves and female Humans?

I get it! Dracthyr are supposed to be their own thing instead of the Dragonkin/Drakonid we’re used to.

But, one of the things so loved, or at least very interesting, about Warcraft dragons is that they can disguise themselves as any race. We have Chromie, we have Ebonhorn, and we have various others disguised as various races.

Why then, are we stuck to male High/Blood/Void Elves and female Humans?

I get that the customization is hard work, but I’m sure people wouldn’t mind being able to select a visage of any race if it meant less unique customization IE: just horns and eyes, perhaps.

Thoughts? Early feedback is best, after all.

I suspect what they showed off is all that they have atm, and more are to come.

I would hope at least add male human and female blood elf. But I would love other races too. Considering how detailed the customization is, I’m not gonna hold my breath for other races as visages

I wish they’d come out and say that then… but I have to believe you. It’s weird that they’d use male elves and female humans as the base. The disparity is weird at best. Hmmm.

I’d be mostly fine for races we’ve already seen, IE Gnomes and Tauren. But all races would be the best outcome.

Careful talking like that.

I just got into a lengthy argument with someone who SWEARS Blizzard is completely done making Dracthyr.

Mr Forum Dracthyr Expert might want to have a word with you.

It’s laziness.

The fact that the art team can’t even give a damn about animating a new set of models says everything about this expansion.

Pure laziness.

I know I sound like a broken record, but I really hope that’s the case. Like, I really do.

They need more customization if they’re gonna thrive.

Actually, if that’s the trade-off, I think more people would dislike the change.

The void/blood elf and human rigs were likely chosen because they’re among the most common used by the playerbase. AND they line up with dragon lore, as we see MOST dragons prefer those guises (just look at the main dragon characters, for god’s sake).

Chromie and Ebonhorn are more exceptions that prove the rule. Consequently, I don’t doubt that only a minority of a minority will choose gnome and/or tauren visages while playing the Dracthyr. If implementing those new models means less customization for the race overall just based on the amount of work that would take, then honestly it may just not be worth it.

And that’s not even getting into the “where do we draw the line?” issue. How many visages are the devs expected to add? Do we stop only at your personal favorite? Or should all 26 models for the core races get draconic customization? Because that seems like an unreasonable expectation for this new race. It would require ten times the amount of work, at the very least, than we’ve ever seen for a race in this game’s history.

Happy to see someone speaking up about this, I’ve been saying this for a while now. I mean hey cool they wanna use humans and elves more but…god no if we’re limited to elves and humans and they’re this…idk ugly…I for one won’t even buy the expansion as what’s the point if I can’t enjoy the new stuff. I mean they also made the dragon form the same across both genders which is…well…wrong in a way. It feels like they’re cutting corners while trying to attract their customers back to the game with new stuff

They seem to be like worgen disguise form right now… probably just used for when you use flying mounts sadly.

I do hope I am wrong though. As I wish the visage forms had alternate animations to be used in evoker class if we choose to mainly use visage form.

I honestly wish we could just pick visage form and choose another class with it. It feels so awkward to have the only reptile race being one class. But I think it would be cool if we could pick a class for our visage form and have evoker basically being the extra 2 specs. As it would open up tanking options or having like shaman dragons! (Thrall is the earth warder rn technically).

But as of now it seems they are basically leaving it as a rp thing sadly.

I hope they change there minds and let us be most classes besides lock and demonhunter.

they do show it in game with gameplay. I expect they might make tiny tweaks but probably not much more.

It looks great in the gameplay footage so I’m fine with that

I’m fine with what they showed too, but the guy that picked a fight was going on about “misogyny” and “inequality”.

It was weird.

This is my issue. I sincerely hope that that they’ve unveiled so far isn’t the finished options. Considering this race only has one class, I hope they intend on making up for the lack of classes with a huge expansive cosmetic list.

But I’ll wait until after some beta feedback before I start whipping out the torches and pitchforks.

People keep trying to justify it as “a new race” or “They aren’t like the aspects” and other nonsense. We all know that if they are excluded, then the likely reason is concealed misogyny or a political motivations.

I only say that because there’s not much else you can cite as being the reason, when you consider what Blizzard ‘used’ to be capable of, compared to what it ‘actually’ produces now.

So really, if they limit visage forms in this fashion it’ll be pretty clear from a company with Blizzard’s track record, that Blizzard is incapable of allowing equal treatment for women and letting them have free choice. Otherwise they would be allowed to choose either the human or the female elf model for their Drakthyr.

Likewise because of their hatred for what they perceive as toxic masculinity, they absolutely will feel required to prohibit males from being allowed to have the male human model for their Drakthyr. Only the eye-candy flamboyant Blood Elf can be permitted.

This mindset also requires the male and female Dragon Shape to be as gender neutral as possible. Hey, don’t hate for me calling the BS out well in advance. This gives you time to either fix it, or admit that you have motive for this and let customers let you know how they feel about that.

Not everyone forgot your debacle with the Eternal Traveller armor and how non-Pre Orders got access to the quest, but your White Knights justified as “But you got the mount which GAVE the quest”. We’re all too familiar with Blizzard style duplicity at this point to pander or make a quick sell.

So lets drop the agenda and just adjourn, eh? Fix this, or pay the price at launch time.

I would at least like to see Human male added, Blood/Void elf female added, possibly Troll/Tauren and Night elves/Gnomes added. Mainly because I would say those are the most guises that I see dragonkins use. (They use way more race guises but for “Dracthyr” sake).

At least then, theres a few more options to choose from…

Honestly, since Evoker and Dracthyr are kinda locked in with each other, it would be best to have more variety of customization so if you wanna create more without feeling bored, then that would be great!

I mean, they also didn’t outright state that these are the only available combos. Sure, they could have shown/mentioned the other combinations, but the implication is there that you can choose between at least a Human and a H/B/V Elven Visage regardless of sex.

I suspect they will forcefully make it that any other visages will have to be earned through some unnecessarily long and annoying process. But since it has no impact on player power, whatever I suppose.

MMO-Champion user Futhark did some rough, but pretty good concepts showing that more Visages are definitely possible, if extra work on the artists:

just because MOST dragons prefer human and elf doesnt mean every single dragon in the world wants to be a human or elf. and theres several regular as non lore imporant dragons on the isles rocking visages that are gnomes, vulpera, pandaren, etc. aka, not humans and elves.

I would have preferred less time have been spent on the ridiculous amount of customization options for the non-combat visage form if we could have chosen any race we want when out of combat.
