Do we know if the Dracthyr could lore-wise become any race like a dragon?
Not that I am aware of… There was a hints that Dracthyr Visage had another purpose and why it was like an elf… but I think it lead to nowhere or maybe I miss read.
Technically in fantasy setting, Powerful or knowledgeable being in magic creature could transform into any race if they wanted too… but at least in WoW that has never been fully explore.
Dreadlords are masters of this abilly using a combination of magic, shadow and who know what else to literally transform and even mimic perfectly someone else powers and personal traits, yet WoW never explain it, beyond assuming its a combination of Illusion and Shadow magic of some form like shown in that old starting campaign where we turn into Orgres. My guess is Dreadlords uses that weird mirror magic in SL that was never fully explain beyond their teleporting capabilities.
Primal and Normal Dragons seems to also have this ability as well but unlike Dreadlords it looks more of a type of advance Polymorph self or Metamorph. Same goes for Worgen and Demon Hunters I imagine, Druids being kings of this shape changing of course… but like I said I speculate because it’s never really explain much or I haven’t read or come across it in-game at least.
I have a friend that role-plays he can turn into a Dragon using a mount to carry me… and buyed the polymorph and another toy to change into different races. Shame you can’t do that like Druids can with their forms… I bet in the future when Dracthyr can be Druids Blizz will add Draconic forms options that will make A LOT of dragon player lovers VERY happy IMO!
Dracthyr lore began with the last expac. That’s where your answers if any lie. So far the answer is no.
Short answer: Maybe, but probably no.
Nothing has definitely been stated. There was a comment about how Dracthyr visage form was different than Dragons. But we don’t know exactly how different or even what exactly is different.
It is possible Dracthyr could learn to take different forms later. As of right now we have no evidence any have or can.
Then there is also the gameplay mechanics that would come into it. The complications from that make it unlikely. It is possible that Blizzard could add other races to their customization of their visage form. But I wouldn’t hold my breath for it.
Actually Dreadlords don’t seem to consistently have any such ability, more common is an ability to posess dead corpses and make them seem alive for extended periods of time.
You are right its always been VERY inconsistent… I wish this was explore a bit more but if your interested here is where I mostly got my assumptions… it’s a nice WoWhead article talking about it!
Whatever this ability or talent is at least in the raid we know they practice it with each other!
High elves and humans did not exist when the Dracthyr were made. So it’s impossible for those 2 races to be hard coded as the only visage options. Which means the dracthyr chose those races, so there’s no reason they couldn’t choose other races.
Blizzard just wanted to limit it because they didn’t want the dragon customizations for every race.
The Dracthyr visage isn’t Human. It’s more elven than anything else and the underwater ruins of Vash’jr show that at least some Night Elves of the period had the modern High/Blood Elf physical build. So most likely Naltharion designed the Vash’jur to have a bipedal form based on the elven model for the physical and aesthatic elements of it that appealed to him.
Night elves also didn’t exist back then. There were no elves at all. Only trolls, titan forged robots, and maybe tauren.
We don’t really have much a calendar prior to the Sundering, we do know that the Night Elveshad an empire for a fairly long stretch of time. They may have arisen not that long after the Titans planted the Well of Eternity.
Dracthyr were made 20,000 years ago. Night elves arose 15,000 years ago.
So far we got Human Female and Blood Elf Male Visage. So hoping we see more like Goblin, Gnome, Human Male, Blood Elf Female, Night Elf, Tauren, Orc, Dwarf, and etc visages.
