There is a reason. Perhaps multiple. We might not like them, or agree with them, but they are reasons nevertheless.
For my part, I will be happy if the 3D bits of the Evoker set shows up on the dragon form. Anything beyond that is just gravy. And anything less, I cannot accept. I don’t want a glorified bear form is is unchanging from the moment I create the character.
The clipping issue with the original worgen model was all over the place. Even the tabard emblem would squeeze under the fold in a body type 1’s chest. Shoulders still clip into the face sometimes. Some things won’t work. Whatever. Let the player decide what they think isn’t acceptable.
I mean, there are clipping issues even with the “barbershop-armor”. It might not seem EGREGIOUS because we just kind of accept that it’s a video game, clipping issues just come with the territory. But those “spikes” and “fins” and what not, totally stick out of some of the custom armor.
And you know what? That’s fine, because you can just run to a barbershop and turn those things off. So… why can’t the same apply to allowing them actual armor? There are loads of helms that look wonky on Worgen or Tauren, but that certainly doesn’t prevent us from creating loads of cool transmog sets for them.
Like I said, we ALL know Blizzard isn’t realistically going to delve into the Dracthyr’s barbershop options and add new “armor” every time a new Raid-tier drops. We KNOW this. And while there are certainly some VERY cool creation options there, does anyone here truly believe those are still going to feel “fresh and new” a year from now? Two years? Five?
Anyone can see this issue coming from a mile away. Just look at some of the Alpha gameplay videos, already most of the Dracthyr blur together, aside from their primary color. It means they’ll NEVER get cool Challenge Mode or Mage Tower armor. They’ll NEVER get proper “Class Armor”. Hell, they can’t even ride mounts right now. They won’t be able to participate in Transmog discussions or competitions, or “Mog monday”, or even the in-game “Trial of Style” event. They can’t engage with a pretty substantial amount of what the game has to offer.
These limitations are indefensible. People are pretending it’s fine, because we all WANT Dragonflight to be awesome, especially after this past couple years. Dracthyr are the shiny new thing, so people think they’re fine because they’re still shiny and new. But once that new-car smell starts to fade, these issues are going to become glaringly obvious. And it’s going to hurt WoW in the long run.
These issues aren’t just easy, they’re OBVIOUS to predict.

Looks like in actual implementation, evokers spend quite a lot of time in humanoid form, so the lack of armor on dragon form seems to feel less bad.
That said, i would love to see gloves and boot transmog be a thing, at least.
I came on these forums for the first time in awhile just to make this topic, Im glad to see other people agree. I love the Drakthyr and Blizzard put a lot of effort into them… but Im sorry Im not a fan of the elf form. Id like to stay in the dragon form and collect transmog sets for it. They have the basic body shape of worgen, theres no reason they cant wear most armor too.
I reaaaallly hope they change this. Transmog is such a big part of the game. It will be a shame not to be able to make cool looking dragon sets

Actually, I do wonder if you’ve hit on something here. I wouldn’t be surprised if Evoker gear showed up in the barbershop when “unlocked” rather than in the Collections tab.

Realistically, though, that’s probably not going to happen. Because at that point, they would ESSENTIALLY be the same thing as wearing normal armor, except it would actually be MORE work.
They literally just add a ton of unnecessary work for themselves.
So… I hate to be debbie-downer here, but that’s just not going to happen.
The whole philosophy just seems incredibly limited, and poorly though-out. If they aren’t going to commit to wearable armor – which is like the BAREST “feature” of any race – why wouldn’t you have just given them ACTUAL dragon forms? At least then, these sorts of restrictions would make sense.

We know that, one way or the other, the Evoker tier is going to show on the dragon form beyond shoulders and belt buckle. The only question is: to what degree?
I mean… do we? I’ve been following news pretty closely, I haven’t see anything confirming or even INDICATING that to be the case. It seems like their wording has always been purposely vague, but it sounds like it’s still just going to be shoulders, and SOME belts (those with unique geometry).
maybe it is just me, but my gosh all i see is thread after thread complaining about customizations and tmog. does any of the player base like actually want good game play or raids or pvp? sure seems like all the rage anymore is just so you can play world of wardrobes.
I wouldn’t call the armor customizations built into character creation for Dracthyr “massive”, and it certainly doesn’t come anywhere close to making up for the variety lost with no transmog.
The least they could have done was make the color options for the armor more granular - like letting players choose the color of the metal bits vs the mail bits, picking color for individual pieces instead of a whole-set paint bucket, etc.
They could have made those armor pieces in-game heritage armor instead of character creation options. But even as character creation options, the solution is obvious: just have them clip through. It’s how Blizzard handles literally all the other 3D jewelry assets, such as the blood elf body jewelry, necklaces, etc. If players don’t like the clipping, then they can choose a different piece of transmog or go to the barber shop to turn off the customization that is clipping.

Visuals are part of the experience. Otherwise, we would all just be playing with elaborate spreadsheets in excel.
Particularly in online games, people want to have characters that look cool, that fulfill some kind of personal “fantasy”. Be it a power fantasy, or something else. Warcraft has always had a pretty distinct look, and that’s appealing for a lot of folks.
I mean, people STILL cite MoP’s Challenge Mode armor sets as some of the coolest rewards Blizzard has ever added. And the thing is, when it comes to a RACE, it’s especially important Blizzard gets it right the first time, because there are to do-overs once it hits live. And once that happens, that’s how they will be in the game, FOREVER.
Also, visuals are the one aspect you can really comment on, without being able to actively participate in the alpha.

This little nugget seems to have been overlooked:
Question: Evokers in draconic form don’t display all of their armor–how does the Evoker specifically interact with visual gear and transmog?
Ion: Certain key pieces show in your draconic form–shoulders, large geometric pieces like belt buckles. When we make things like tier sets, we know that this armor is custom-made for the Evoker, and so we can do more things than we could do elsewhere.
How else would you read this?
It’s more because of all of the areas Dracthyr would clip through the armor + various customization options creating odd geometry for armor textures to apply to. They have the option to add spikes to their collar bone. Not large protruding spikes, smaller ones. Same with arms. And with the fronts of their upper legs. The wings don’t connect at a singular point but have webbing that runs down the whole back as well.
All of this could be worked around IMO, turning off body spikes when armor is equipped and simply ignoring the clipping of wing webbing.

How many dragons have you seen wandering around rocking full armor sets?

Shoulders and belts. The wording here seems intentionally vague. It sounds like he’s just saying “well they only show shoulders and belts, but we’re gonna try and make them look extra-cool”.
It’s not IMPOSSIBLE it means something else. But I don’t think it’s likely, given what we understand of their limitations and their inability to wear normal armor.
I mean, I think if you’re pulling a humanoid race out of thin air, we have 18 years of set expectations with new races. I was certainly welcoming for an opportunity to change things up, with “playable dragons”, but I don’t hate the idea of dragon-hybrids. But if they’re humanoid, then why can’t they wear armor?
Like I said, these “barbershop-armor” options should really just be their Heritage Armor. Because let’s be honest, their body type isn’t really THAT wild or unique from existing races (again, Worgen and Tauren are far more exotic). Because they really do look great – but it’s simply impossible for them to match EVERY shoulder in the entire game. And frankly, transmogging IS a pretty meaningful part of the game.
I mean hell, I would be really excited to collect the Mythic Santum of Domination gear if they would display on the Dracthyr. But ONLY the shoulders? MAYBE the belt? That’s ridiculous.

- “Elsewhere” is the standard shoulders and belt.
- They say they can “do more” than this with tier sets.
Ergo, you will be able to equip more of the tier sets than shoulders and belts.
I don’t know how you can look at the first two points and come out with a different conclusion.
I agree.
/wave to the Tinkers lovers and enthusiats out there.
