It’s just that simple. There is zero justification for Dracthyr NOT to be able to wear armor. And frankly, farming Mail transmogs gives players something to do anyways.
Even if Blizzard said “they won’t be able to at launch, but it’ll be added sometime during Dragonflight”, I think that would be just as good.
Obviously, there are likely to be SOME clipping issues with certain armor pieces – it’s just the nature of the beast – and I think it would also be acceptable if they’re unable to wear cloaks in their True form. Like Worgen and Tauren, helms have always been a mixed back, but especially when you have a Helm-transmog as one of your pre-order bonuses (not to mention the old cosmetic helms returning as Amazon Prime rewards), I would certainly advise making a rough attempt.
Similarly, they really ought to be able to ride mounts in their True form. Yeah, it might seem a bit funny for “a dragon to be riding another dragon”, but no more bizarre than a Worgen riding any number of wolves in the game.
This is nothing against the Visage form – I’ll admit, I would certainly appreciate having additional Race choices (namely Dark Iron or Nightborne, or at the very least, male Human and female BE) – but given they’re clearly humanoid, there just really isn’t any reason they shouldn’t be able to ride mounts.
Also, just throwing this out there as an option; something you MIGHT ought to consider, is perhaps maybe Wings something that can be “toggled-off” in the off-chance other classes are ever considered for them? So if you played a “Dracthyr Warrior”, for example, they might be a wingless version of the Dracthyr. Thus avoiding the very obvious questions like “why doesn’t my Dracthyr Warrior use his wings or anything like that?”. But again, that’s an idea.
All in all, I think there is an expectation that comes with a new Race, and while it would make sense to restrict them from armor if they had WILDLY different proportions or bodies, the fact is, they are every bit as “human” looking (arguably moreso) as a Tauren or a Worgen.
By all accounts, the gameplay looks promising, and the spell visuals look fantastic. I really WANT Dragonflight to be one of the best expansions ever, but the Dracthyr’s limited options REALLY puts a damper on the whole thing. It definitely brought the hype-train to a grinding halt, at least for me. Adding the capacity to wear armor would get me way more pumped, though (plus, it would inspire me to probably start playing a Mail-user in the meantime, just farming transmog sets for them).
