Dracthyr riding on a flying mount

I am sure I am not alone on this, but it just feels and looks very odd being a Dracthyr riding on a horse or whatever that is flying… Yeah, we get the soar ability, but it feels like the wings Dracthyr have are just for show. Why do they not have some kind of special racial that allows them to fly on their own?

I saw one in Org today mounted on a War Bear.

It was the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in this game.

Yeah, I feel really stupid riding a flying mount as a Dracthyr.

It was intended to force you into visage form whenever you mount. But people complained and said they wanted to ride a dragon as a dragon. Blizzard listened.

Yeah, it’s pretty dumb. Especially when all the Dracthyr npcs have no problem just flying off. Riding a flight path and my legs were in the poor gryphon. Red Flying Cloud at least looks okay, almost like flying… sorta…

Edit Also, if it’s intended to ride a mount as your visage, they need to add different transmog for your dragon and visage forms.

There is an ability given that allows you to toggle if you want visage on when you are out of combat and exist out of soar. That is what I believe you are referring to, but this was changed to not do it when mounted.

Even so, I think even with the visage form, there should be an racial ability that turns them into dragon form and they fly up using their wings to fly. It’s don’t have to be like Soar where they are flying at high speeds like that. Just make it so they are hovering and flying.

The ability didn’t exist before the change was made. After Chosen Identity was implemented, leaving it off resulted in you staying as a dragon 100% of the time, mounted or not.

Personally, I liked the functionality before the change better.

Because that would make too much sense.

Being a dragon on a dragon doesn’t look any trippier than being a Worgen on a wolf, or a Vulpera on a fox, or a Khajiit on a Senche in Elder Scrolls etc.

I mean yeah?

You’re a little green pointy-eared lady on a motorbike. You probably allied with a minotaur who rode a mount that 99% realistically, it should have broken it’s back instead of ridden (let alone been able to fly on). It’s all silly, and Warcraft isn’t even super strict and serious high fantasy. It’s the world of El Pollo Grandes and Big Love Rockets.

I was thinking that a racial that allowed flying for one class would make people who didn’t play them scream that it was OP. Then I thought about Druids. If they can fly out of combat why not Drakthyr?

Why do you feel the need to be contrarian over what others find absurd? Recreational gaslighting for no actual purpose but to be the dissenting voice?

Toxic positivity is just as bad as negativity, and fingerwagging people for laughing at the absurd is toxically absurd.

most of us have been asking for a flight form, similar to druids but with a cast time, that would allow us to fly normally in old world content. then soar needs to just be made identical to dragon riding in the isles - right now you can get it down to a 1 min cooldown, but you’re still stuck with 1 and 2 charges (respectively) of the surge forward and ascent abilities, so it doesn’t really fix much

Lmao calling me “positively toxic” for saying that the logical fallacy of goofy mounts in a high fantasy setting doesn’t break my immersion is… well, it’s a new take.

Have fun with that opinon, I guess? I’m going to have actual fun in the meantime.

Let me reitterate my initial post to you;
“it doesn’t look ridiculous because these other things also look ridiculous”

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go have some actual fun, rather than pretending to have actual fun.

I was thinking this when I made mine last night. Like we are dragons we should just be able to fly as our “mount”. I think it’s pretty silly seeing them on actual mounts.

I ride around on an enchanted fey dragon.

Question: have they ever explained why they didn’t give them flying as a racial? Like druids with flight form?
