So, from my impression of dragonflight, all draconic beings, regardless of size, are counted among dragonkind. Albeit not “true” dragons, but lesser dragons? idk how id explain it. but anyways, would dracthyr and dragonkin be counted among that group? or are they more like servent-subspecies/hybrids?
We are dragonkind, however we are not true dragons. We were created by Neltharion in Aberus to serve him, and were for a time, bound to him. We are now free, but also not true dragons.
We are sort of unique. Kind of like cousins of the Dragons. We have dragon blood, but we are a mix of whatever Neltharion put in the pot…
Wikipedia: " In World of Warcraft, the main difference between a dragon and a dracthyr is that dracthyr are a type of dragonkin, an offshoot of the dragon species, and can change between draconic and humanoid forms."
"Here are some other differences between dragons and dracthyr:
Appearance: Dragons have overlapping scales or armored plates, and can have horns, frills, or spikes on their heads and backs. Dracthyr have thick scaly skin, long necks, and wedge-shaped heads with large, pointy teeth."
" The drakonid were slow, and dragonspawn fragile, but Neltharion saw potential in the mortal races that had begun to emerge across the world. He created the dracthyr as ideal soldiers, combining the essence of dragons with the traits of mortal races ."
So, again we are kind of cousins of dragons. lol
Tazen all out there with the epic explanations!
The skin for the dracthyr and the new dragon models looks pretty similar actually, and we have a lot of the same customisation options as them too. All the dragonkin, dracthyr included basically just look like bipedal dragons really. A lot of the things you described could go for all types.
I do agree that dracthyr are in a weird spot, though. They have more in common with true dragons than other dragonkin (things like being able to shapeshift between two forms), but they are not true dragons themselves.
I can see what the devs were going for. Four limbs plus wings makes a dragon sort of thing, but it ends up feeling a little weird as to their spot in draconic society.
Dracthyr are more like Dragonborn than Dragons? Is that a proper analogy? There’s also Draconians and Dragonblood from Pathfinder 2E.
I look at them as wolves bred over and over to dogs, dragon edition.
Y’all were Neths discord kittens or something.
Pugs, they are pugs.
If you want a DnD analogy, I would say they are more like half dragons. Dragonborn are kind of a weird race. Er, that is just biologically. Dragonborn were created to be a slave race, so they and the Dracthyr do have that in common.
