Dracthyr need to be able to fly without a mount. They should be able to do Dragon Riding completely without a mount as well (but I am not going to go into that issue).
Blizzard talks about wanting to have the fantasy of playing a dragon and then give us flightless winged humanoids.
There is no reason Dracthyr should not be able to hit a button and insta fly just like Druids do. It should be disabled in combat just like any other mount ability, but when out of combat a Dracthyr should be able to take the to skies on their own wings.

Make soar the same as dragonriding, and make dragon riding usable in all zones. They’ll be washing confetti out of their coffee mugs for weeks and donating all the cakes they get gifted because they couldn’t possibly eat it all.

I remember coming back from a break sometime after that occurred and thought something was wrong with the strider. Like back when I first got it, and you cast it in water, you had to hop up to start walking on it. When I came back after the change, I kept hopping like a mad man thinking it was bugged.
To be honest when first announced the Dracythr, I really thought as a racial they would have some sort of self flying ability at the regular flying speed as everyone else.
It really did seem fitting, I am disappointed, they truely missed the mark, cast the ability has a cast time like mounting for balance .
DH wings are actually connected to their head or something. I’m assuming they used the tech of the Warlock tier set helmet for them. If you get a pumpkin thrown on you, your wings will not appear.
Also, Illidan’s wings were always out because he had permanent metamorphosis. Our DH is supposed to have a demonic soul, so maybe it could be justified to give them permanent wings. But they would have to build them into the character model somehow to make it look decent.
If they make 640 Dracthyr flying available everyone, then Dracthyr will have absolute advantage in the world. And you though WoD flying removal complaints were loud.
To compensate, Blizz would have to either nerf Dracthyr from 640 to 410 or buff other flying mount speeds to 640.
If normal dragons (who fly at 930) were allowed anywhere, no other flying mount would ever be used again.
OP is asking for an additional normal Burning Crusade style flight at the 410 speed, essentially a mount where you are the mount, like Sandstone Drake.
Replies are adding that idea of flight should be available in the old content. Meanwhile the new Dragonflight style gliding with 930 speed should be available in the new content only alongside Dragon Riding, as part of the Dragon Riding skill.
i would be fine with Dracthyr also getting the instant cast normal fight form button. then us druids can have a new opponent to play the chicken with the ground game. how low can you go~
