We’re never getting a new race are we?
We’re never getting something with a whole new rig/model with unique animations.
I love the allied race system, I really do but I would like new stuff now and then that isn’t using something elses model. And even if we close something close to new (like the Dracthyr model using the female worgen rig but being very different)
Then we can’t even use armor…

That’s what dracthyr are. People who claim they share animations and skeletons with female worgen are sorely mistaken and lack a sense for critical analysis, instead just looking at it as “digitigrade legs and lanky build, must be femworgen”.
I think they share a skeleton with incubi, maybe.
Of course, they can’t wear armor as you mentioned, which is a huge negative-- especially if they were to open the race to other classes.

Even if it is a new model I don’t think it’s a new rig. I walked around as one and while the animation are NEW it does feel just like a female worgen. They most likely took parts of it and not all like we see with some mount models.
I just…if they are new and new means no armor being on them I just wonder what is the point?

Bruh ANY video game reuses assets before making something brand new.
That’s just the creation process.

It’s not a new rig. It’s the same rig used for the Incubus.
That’s entirely different than models or animations, though.
Correct.
The only new rig we’ve seen is the KT one.
There’s nothing wrong with reusing rigs, as long as the models are good and different.

I like my devoker and would have probably stuck with it if it weren’t for the lame dracthyr model and being forced to be blood elf as well. Make a beefy version that can visage any race and I’ll consider going back to it.

Among all the low budget races back then, Vulpera was the only one that truly represented a new race. Yes, oversized humans, who may have indulged a bit too much in eating are ultimately just humans. The portrayal of Vulpera as an excessively cute mainstream fox race however has captivated many players.
So, it can work to polish up an old model if it’s genuinely used to create a new race.
However, apart from this exception, I can’t stand the allied race system at all, as the other races are nothing more than customization options with extra racials. Consequently, the whole system looks extremely cheap, and the character select screen is cluttered with copy&paste races.
Introducing a third dwarf clone will only make the whole thing more ridiculous. I really have no idea how the devs can be so detached from their players. The uncomfortable silence with occasional applause during the presentation of the dwarves spoke volumes.
And, as discussed in the other thread on the topic, Dracthyr just seem incredibly unfinished.
- No transmogs.
- Only half of two races (Human and Blood Elf) for Visage.
- Only one class.
- Only one body type.
It’s not something I would praise in the highest terms either.

allied races are a good compromise especially when you consider:
asset creation.
since cata every new core race they added had their own unique starting zone. allied races just spit you out in an instanced version of a location (boralus, shadowforge, suramar, etc) and have you take a portal to sw/org.
and sorry if you don’t like them, but plenty of people like myself enjoy the variety of races available

They are customization options. No more, no less.
You could eliminate all the copy&paste versions and have the options as well, just like they did for the Manari for example. Or, if they must be separated at all costs, classify them as subraces. Every other game with such options does it, only WoW insists on presenting them as extra races, and even worse, in the case of dwarves, as an expansion feature.
But well, WoW doesn’t even have body sliders or color palettes, things that have been standard for over a decade. One must already be excited about a handful of new hair colors every few months for one or at most two races. If one is not accustomed to anything else…

i’m happy that we’re getting anything at all, really. i’d rather have it than not
Never say never.
Though, I’m mainly content.
My most wanted races are Mok’nathal, High Elves, and Forest Trolls. The Big, beefy, muscular Forest Trolls.
All easy additions and could fit as Allied Races.
Anything else is extra and nice, but I most likely wouldn’t play as.
“New OG”?
One of those is being used wrong.

Basically it’s own animation base. Like Kul’Trians.
Dracthyr is reusing DH meta or female worgen.
I agree with this.
What i honestly want to know and wish was that i was a fly on the wall in the meeting that decided to make KT’s an actual thing. Like who was there that said “you know what we should do guys, TALL FAT PEOPLE!”, seriously it’s like there wasn’t anyone from marketing or with even basic common sense to throw the stupidity flag and say…there is ALMOST NO FANTASY FOR ANYONE TO PLAY TALL FAT PEOPLE. So we got a new model and a new rig and off we got to less than 3% of the playerbase even ever creating what is a overly tall and obese human being.
Talk about a missed opportunity to create something special for the Alliance and just the game in general and such an incredible failure that was OBVIOUS it would be a failure. How anyone thought ANOTHER human “race” was a good idea and then to make them tall fat people is just laughable.

God i hate how ridiculously tall Kul’Tirans are. Feels straight up immersion breaking.
And the worst is that they had the perfect height with the vanilla large human.
Like the damn things stare TAUREN in the face.

At first, I assumed that the sole reason for the appearance of the Kul Tirans was that the devs wanted to introduce Ogres for the Horde later on. But somehow, even that didn’t happen.

Think the only reason we don’t have ogres as playable is that they are afraid to design the women without triggering someone.

Either way, it was clear from the beginning that Kul Tirans and Mecha Gnomes would be a complete failure. In such matters, one might almost think the devs enjoy trolling their players. However, since even such things require some effort, that would be quite cynical.^^"
Though, least for me outside the height. The only other issue with KT is the females faces, way too clean.
Kalaastra (EU) came with some lovely edits which would have made them perfect for wow.
