The basic idea is that we all know some Mary Sue players who will claim they escaped before Neltharion placed the Dracthyr in stasis, and the premise of the guild would be a unit of Dracthyr who now with an introduction to Stormwind and the Alliance, would recruit other members of the Alliance to aid in hunting down and eliminating Dracthyr claiming to have deserted prior to the stasis event. Thoughts?
EDIT
It’s not an OOC move as much as it is the idea of actions carry consequence. Even in a fantasy world, character actions would still carry with them consequence. The guild would operate within bounds to detain and properly deal with Dracthyr who abandoned their post during a time of war. Desertion in Warcraft has already been shown in lore as a crime punishable by death, why would this fall under anything less?
As for the use of Mary Sue, it’s meant less as derogatory as it is a generalized statement of the cliched character concept of “I didn’t want to, so I did this that goes against lore.”
Having an out of character motivation be your in character motivation is not a strong concept and won’t last. In addition to this, Mary Sue is a subjective term and using it to more rudely state you don’t approve of somebody’s RP is not only unneeded but dare I say a little cringe and certainly not sustainable to base a guild around.
A little cringe? More like full on cringe. Mary Sue belongs back in 2010 with the author who’s since profusely apologized for ever having done it.
OP, this idea sucks and quit trying to police people’s RP with IC “justification”. Nobody’s going to agree to you killing their character just because you don’t agree with how they chose to RP.
Death doesn’t have to be the outcome, as it being an RP server means consent for death is necessary. Just as a possible outcome pushed for. As for policing, apologies for outlying a guild idea to aid in the realm of “lore abiding” that some see as “policing”. As stated, I could care less about what people RP, no matter how cringe it may be to watch someone RP something clearly that defies lore. It is neither my place, nor right to tell people how or what to RP, but this post is rather to gauge the reception of the idea, not as a posting ground for individuals to be belligerent towards the idea.
As was a good hustle on your edit. The guilds premise would be a way to generate RP, within a consentful boundary state within Alliance RP which has been relegated to House or Military guilds who “typically” don’t RP outside of their sandboxes.
This feels like the RP version of a Karen who thinks anyone doing anything around them that isn’t “lore complaint” deserves to be scowled at. They’re not hurting you, Karen. Mind your own business and keep walking.
So are you stating that any idea which could possibly generate RP outside of the RP sandboxes observed by military and House guilds which dominate MG is Karen like in nature if it seeks lore compliance? In this case, should house and military guilds which deny entry based on lore compliance be barred?
I wouldn’t go ahead with this one.
It hinges on the idea that some RPers may choose to play a Dracthyr character outside the established origins.
And that one would encounter them naturally through Rp.
And that they would consent to this sort of RP.
There’s a lot of maybes here and the potential for things to not go as hoped. This seems like an idea worth letting go in favor of something less focused, and something that doesn’t seem so targeted.
OOC driven actions hidden behind a veneer of IC/OOC divide are always very lame, and fairly underhanded. Because in my experience most people who do so will push the envelope more and more and then when people get mad, fall back on “IC DOESN’T EQUAL OOC BRUH!!” and then put a disclaimer in their TRP saying so, giving them a moral high ground.
Players can RP what they want, of course, but no one is obligated to RP with them. If you find a concept dumb, then don’t engage at all. I find most of the people who are RPing out there concepts or outright nonsensical things in Stormwind tend to want the negative attention in any case, so leaving them be until they get bored of it is much better for everyone.
These “Mary Sue” characters are not going to go along with your idea. No one wants to log in for casual Stormwind RP only to be ICly harassed by an entire guild. If you’re really attached to the concept, just use NPCs/throwaway characters.
I think it sounds 10x more interesting than another humans-with-scales guild, especially if it’s PvP-based. I’m down to join on my MG dracthyr who needs to be leveled anyway.
There is zero problem with this concept as long as everyone involved is consenting to this kind of roleplay, and I would implore the OP to have stringent OOC communication rules within their guild to ensure their ‘hunts’ are above board and aren’t bothering anyone who doesn’t want to be bothered.
This really isn’t to throw stones at anyone, but for a matter of perspective - think on how a lot of heat the guard guilds get, the differing law projects and all of those groups who have their own set fanon and way of play/story writing and telling. Sure, there are some good folks in them, but you also hear about those who butt in uninvited, who try to push their fanon and such to the point that they are disregarded or outright ignored. Should your guild go ahead, while you may be able to know that you’re not going to be that type, the chances of having a guild member sully the guild’s reputation by being that person to go nuts and go overboard? The chances are quite high because there will always be someone who doesn’t know any better (such as like they’re new) or those who want to use this as a vehicle to be as big of a nuisance as they can be, attacking another person because that is what their character is “mandated” to do without any conversation or consent.
It’s one thing if it’s kept to your guild and such for your own inner story building and play, but leaving it open to create roleplay for anyone outside of it to be involved, I fear you’re not going to get too many who would be on board to take part in such a thing. Kind of like the folks doing crime and are pretty much being terrorists openly in Stormwind. The majority of folks will not accept consequences for their actions.
