The Drac’thyr appear to be just an iteration of the DH class: a mirror universe version but with more limitations and a feminized appearance to counter the more masculine-looking DHs. This isn’t so much new as it is recycled and I had hoped for more from Blizzard.
I won’t begrudge the people who do like the reveal but I will lament the lack of options for people who “could” like the idea but won’t because of lack of options. One of the most frequent complaints I’ve read about the DH class is that it is limited to elves. Blizzard’s acknowledgement of this has been to double down on this aspect with the new class. It comes off as very tone deaf.
Dragons should be at least a little bit scary, or have that option. These things are downright adorable.
This shape was already a thousand times better than the one presented, the face was very imposing although the arms still remind me of Popeye.
It’s hard to be satisfied with what they’re trying to push us, I hope they listen to the community who are apparently unhappy with it, although a few have liked it.
It would be really good, that is, it should be done in DH style, but I could choose the way of combat would be better than DH, honestly I could have drachtyr of all races in the game.
Who didn’t want to, right, it would be great if it wasn’t mandatory to fight in dragonoid form, if I had that freedom of choice it would be great and to give that dragon feeling we could transform into a dragon even to fly (mount) in the size of dragon mounts
yes too much, a “dragon” is something that is weird to look at and not have a melee specialization mostly tank.
Instead of giving mounts, they should let us transform into dragons to fly, just like our dragon mounts
There are people who don’t understand the great immersion that it is to be able to play with a draconic race, first you feel powerful, with an imposing appearance and you feel like a dragon, but the blizzard people came and put a gecko for you to play where you only it hits from afar and still doesn’t fly alone, it’s a weird looking race, and extremely without choices, I don’t understand how this race won’t have a melee specialization.
Man, the race itself suits a tank, but any melee would be great, personally I can’t play ranged class, a battle mage style would be cool as well as the shaman enhancement
The person’s argument is “if you don’t like the race, don’t play with it”, it’s sad the person doesn’t understand that this drachtyr can improve in a way that will be good for everyone, if it allowed the character to fight in both ways both sides would like “but there are those extremists that either it’s my way or not”, as well as a melee specialization for the evoker class wouldn’t spoil the other two specializations, and lastly if a person doesn’t want to transform into a dragon that imagine being, just connect a mount you like and that’s it.
Except the whole argument why only Dracthyr can be Evokers is the existence of their Dracthyr form is unique to them.
Delete the Visage form
There was a post earlier on from one of the devs/artists that alluded to there being different options that would allow you to make a much more imposing drake form.
So hopefully they look at a lot of the feedback, make sure to polish them a bit and show us some of those options.
Edit: found it. https://mobile.twitter.com/valarynn/status/1516905001276301312
But making the drachtyr form more beautiful and imposing is not ceasing to be drachtyr, allowing the player to choose whether to fight in humanoid form or to fight melee would also not stop being drachtyr, it just opened the door for players who want to play drachtyr, but they can’t play ranged or they don’t want to be stuck in the draconic form, I myself want to make the draconic form more imposing to play with it I think it’s cool, but depending on how the blizzard people do it can be bad as it is already in my opinion and just because they did it that way we don’t have to take it quietly.
Ahh very cool to see this, there’s hope so, just my dream of having melee that I still don’t have hopes lol, even so it doesn’t hurt to give an opinion to see if others identify themselves and the guys implement it
If they do the talent overhaul correctly, the fact they only have one dps spec and one heal spec shouldn’t be a big deal, since there should be more variety than say, demon hunters have had.
But that assumes they do it correctly.
yes, but it’s just that personally I wanted to hit melee, I’m not good with classes that hit the distance, but I’ll try for sure.
Oh wow I really love that concept art you linked in the original post, seeing the bulkier version compared to the slender one really brings out what looked weird to me on the original dragon form. I also agree we should be able to choose between our visage/dragon form while in combat and it would be really cool if the dragon form triggered while using certain spells like when demon hunters use eye beam/metamorphosis
It isn’t though? Imagine no Night Elf Druids or Blood Elf Paladins. Demon Hunter and ONLY Demon Hunter if you want to roll an elf. People would be rioting in front of Blizz HQ.
I love Blizzard’s version. that zbrush one is weirdly shaped. They are adding bigger bodies. Isn’t everyone happy?
I have to say, I absolutely love how they look as-is in every single animation that we have been shown, their floatiness while they fly breathing fire downwards looks super cool and draconic to me with their current bodies, and their wing flap pushback would look less impressive if they were beefier (making their wings seem less imposing)
They totally should get a trigger to automatically switch back into visage form after combat for those that want it, but I’m not sure that the meta eye-beam would work, so far it’s looked like every single spell uses their draconic body in some way.
But there is no reason to allow them to be other classes when they have their own special class.
No, they aren’t.
Having faction/race/class distinctions adds complexity, variety and flavor to the game.
There are presently 194 race/class combos. I don’t care how overindulged you are by your parents, that is more than enough.
No, it isn’t.
They need the dragonoid form to fly and breath fire.
What would be dumb is having the Blood Elves/Humans part 3 humanoid form doing those things.
Source, please.
Quote from another thread:
Adding paladins to the Horde in tbc didn’t stop there being a tank shortage
Adding dks in wrath didn’t stop there being a tank shortage
Adding monks in mists didn’t stop there being a tank shortage
Adding dhs didn’t stop there being a tank shortage
Why would another class that can tank stop there being a tank shortage?

There is no rule.
Blizzard could have just made it a straight class, no specialization, given all the cool things involved like flying in combat and breathing fire.
It isn’t as if we don’t already have plenty.
Not really, not when their power comes from being a dragon…
I don’t want drak’thyr/evokers to be demon hunters. I don’t care in the slightest about the visage form (It’s just a blood elf reskin as someone who plays horde and mostly plays male characters).
I’m all in on dragon form in combat 100% of the time. Don’t know why people want a demon hunter reskin.
That’s a pretty sway redesign. I would definitely pick those features as a customization option.
I agree with all of your points save for the way they look. I personally like how they look, though I can definitely see why others would want them to look different.
They absolutely 100% should be able to be other classes though–or, in lieu of that, the evoker should have access to every role. Dracthyr not being able to tank is a joke.
Literally just telling a portion of the playerbase “you cannot enjoy the new thing that others are enjoying” when that new thing is a RACE isn’t cool under any circumstance.
I am glad for this. Because this means that everyone won’t be playing my dragon boi’s on release. Which will leave them all to me.
I DO agree with this part 100%. I understand why evoker is restricted to the new race (it makes sense since they were created specifically to combine the powers of the 5 flights and that’s what empowers the evoker’s magic
((that said…I was REALLY hoping for a Dragonsworn class that would’ve allowed a character of any race to have draconic-based spell abilities based on them pledging themselves in service to a dragonflight. The specs, spells, heck even the draconic customization options in visage form could’ve still applied to that class…as both dragonspawn and drakonids were once mortals who were changed by their exposure to/service to their respective dragonflights’ magic)).
But Dracthyr ONLY being able to be evokers? As you said, that’s just plain laziness and not wanting to go to the trouble to add spell/ability animations to the draconic model. If we try out the evoker class and love it…fine. But if you don’t like the way the class plays? Well then, sorry, you won’t get to actually play your Dracthyr character outside of just maybe turning them into a crafting alt or hanging out in a city. Even a very limited selection of other classes like mage and hunter would be better than ‘evoker ONLY’. For me it’s worse than demon hunter.
When Legion launched I made one and played her through the starting zone and a bit of leveling, but the play-style just wasn’t for me so I ended up deleting her and the second DH I made much later on the road and actually leveled to cap to see if the class would grow on me. It didn’t. No biggie…I still have other night elf and blood elf characters I can play as classes I DO enjoy. Much like, if I don’t enjoy how monk plays, I can still make a pandaren character and choose a class I prefer for them.
As to the model criticisms…I’m not nearly as bothered. I like the slender, graceful look (though if people want a more bulky body option I’ve seen they have that option). I’m sure they’ll add a wide variety of head shapes and other customization options to address those concerns).
Heck, a relatively easy fix on the race/class issue for Dracthyr would be to have drac evokers forced to shift into draconic form for combat, but allow a dracthyr mage (or other base class) stay in visage form in combat (and only shift into that form for flight)- since the visage is a base elf/human model and so the animations should already be there. The visage form is also able to use/show normal armor so that’s not a problem either. A Dracthyr mage would be using those abilities instead of the dragonflight-based magics of an evoker, so being able to retain humanoid form using those makes sense (much like Kalec can use normal magic in half-elf form without having to shift into his true dragon form).
Im sorry, this isnt true and history proves that. By the time we, the players, are introduced to something it is already too late for major changes. At best, minor tweeks are the most that can be hoped for and even those are extremely rare.
Because the lizard form is so horrible to look at.
