According to Data for Azeroth, Dracthyr make up around 4% of all races. This might not seem like a lot, but for context this number alone puts them slightly below Trolls which are at 4.1%, and is only slightly behind Tauren at 4.4% and void elves at 4.5%
They beat out Vulpera at 2.9%.
Now granted these numbers are for ALL characters, but if we only include max level characters, that actually brings them higher up to 4.4% of all player races, which beats Trolls, Undead, Dranei, Void elves, and even Dwarves.
Point being? They are popular. Now you could say “Well they have their own class that can ONLY be that race”, and to that I tell you that Evokers are the LEAST popular race by a large margin, with only 3.6 percent of level 80 characters being Evokers. This is half of the 2nd to last place which is monks at 6.2%.
So that tells us that Evokers actually play very little into it.
Now whether the popularity of this class has to do with the Dragon form or the Visage form isn’t something we can measure. I can say that my opinion is that most people prefer the visage form, but either way the race itself is popular.
Could we see some dev time to expan the race to Druids, Paladins and Shamans as well as open up some transmog for them, or at the very least more armor on the barber shop?
I’d argue that they didn’t get enough Dev time. Multiple classes and transmogs should have been something that was included from the beginning. At the very least we should have the option to not apply transmog to dracthyr form, because my Visage form often looks great but it clashes with the armor I select on my Dracthyr form.
This belt being the perfect example. Look how different it looks on my Visage/Dracthyr form.
They have more customization than any race. They just got a bunch of new classes.
Use a different transmog. We work with what we’ve got. I’ve been playing my lizard since DF and found ways to deal with the transmog stuff. It’s got problems, but at least we have a crap ton of customization. Most Allied Races are extremely limited in customization and desperately need attention.
That’s my personal view on it and I’ve got nothing further to add.
I don’t know how you could come to that conclusion. the stats you’ve provided imply some 90% of Drac are locked into that race by their class.
The whole “Dracthyr can’t mog” thing is kind of dumb and I’d like it to change. I just don’t think these stats are the kick anyone needs to make it happen.
How many players would still be dracthyr if they didn’t have the option of combat in visage, or visage at all? I’d say elf/human are popular, and dracthyr benefit from the visage to prop up their demographic.
i knew a lot of people who were excited to play as a dracthyr and never have to go into dragon form so it’s a small wonder people are starting to play it. there’s also people who like the dragon model too (go figure) so that adds up to quite a bit. right now despite how much i’ve badmouthed them in the past am currently on the fence about changing this guy to one. doublejump and glide are so much fun
Didn’t dracthyr starts near the level cap of the last expac? On top of that, they’re the only one that can be Evokers along with being the first new and unique race in a while.
There’s really no excuse for them not working out transmog for them.
Even if you block out half the slots because of wings and horns and what have you, that’s still better than nothing. If mechagnomes can still have some mog, I don’t see why dracthyr can’t.
if anything they should let dracthyr of any armor type be able to use the evoker tier sets to this day i have never seen an evoker in visage form with a full set mogged
Maybe in time we could see another class, but with evoker being a hero class specific to them; having access to paladin or anything else would be over kill I think.
