Dracthyr, an unfinished race

Is it just me, or do Dracthyr just feel… Unfinished? It seems like they didn’t have enough dev time budgeted to properly implement them.

For example, let’s look at the ability Chosen Identity. It forces you to go back to visage form after combat is finished or after you have hit the ground during Soar. But if you use Hover (like I’m constantly doing to go fast) you go back into Dracthyr form. It doesn’t put you back into Visage form after Hover ends, and it makes Chosen Identity almost worthless for me.

Another one is transmog. Shoulders and belts are shared between both forms, making transmog a nightmare. If we are going to have so many restrictions shouldn’t we at least be able to transmog our forms separately? Would it take too much time to implement this in WoWs spaghetti code?

It took until almost the last patch to implement Soar as a dragon riding mount.

I need to be in dracthyr form to change my dracthyr transmog. Then if I want to change my visage transmog I need to walk away, go to visage form and open the transmog again. Why isn’t there a toggle in the transmog screen?

Dracthyr form has gotten 0 new armor customizations the entire expansion. Are we just stuck with the same small choices of armor sets for all time? Can we expect to never get new armor options? Could we at the least receive new tier set armor for Dracthyr form?

Are we ever going to learn why the Dracthyr’s Visage form is two races that didn’t even exist at the time of their creation? This screams of “Ran out of time, make something up.”

Evokers are a fun class and I like playing them. But the cosmetic restrictions and little annoyances of playing a Dracthyr are piling up. Dracthyr were touted as the race with the most customizations ever. In practice they’ve ended up the least customizable race in the game, and by a very large margin.

Blizzard, are there any plans to fix these pain points?

Or are we just screwed?

Yikes I never thought I’d see the day of people asking for more customizations on Dracthyr given how far ahead they are vs every other race but I guess today is that day.

I could be supportive of the point of wanting to be able to transmog more or full armor sets on them but putting it under customization instead of asking for it to work like everyone else when they already have so much more than everyone else customization wise just doesn’t sit well with me.

So far ahead we can’t even use transmog :dracthyr_shrug:.

I don’t care if we get any new customizations to the Dracthyr body options, but our armor options are starting to get very lacking (and are part of our customization options).

I do love the class and race, but I have to agree that they do feel unpolished and unfinished. After playing one for a while you start to notice the little things.

No proper stealth animation when a rogue or quest puts you in stealth

When in idle attack mode for visage they raise their fists. I would much prefer either having your weapon drawn or be in a caster attack form.

Some quest can’t be completed like the northrend legendary mace questline. It’s stops part way through.

The ocean floor running animation isn’t available to dracthyr

Sometimes the wings look stiff and unmoving on mounts.

Again transmog and character customization are two different things and character customization wise between dragon form and visage form Dracthyr have so much more than every other race that it’s not funny.

I even went out of my way to add the second part to my reply and say that I’d separate that from saying about new customizations for them and say that you want it to work like for other races with more armor or to be able to use full sets through transmog like every other race does.

Perhaps I could have said that better. I was more talking about our armor customization. Everything else is fine.

Customizations are unfortunately the only way for us to get new armor sets.

I promise I’m not hating on your requests I just think it would be much better to have it removed from customizations and added to be actual transmog like the rest of the races that’s all.

I’ve said it many times before, and I shall say it at least once more. My main gripes with Dracthyr is that they restricted them to be one class and one class only at the moment. Dracthyr have great class potential if only they’d remove the restrictions on the race. I want to be a Dracthyr Warrior, it would be awesome!

The other is that, in their Dragon Form, they look ridiculous on mounts, and the only way to (currently) solve this issue is to be in Visage form. Something I do not like to do, because what is the point of being a Dragon like race if to avoid looking weird on mounts I’d take on the form of a Human/Elf. If I wanted a Human/Elf caster I’d roll a Human or Elf Warlock, Mage or Priest. They could solve this issue by making Soar their racial mount, like how Running Wild is Worgen’s Racial Mount. And while Soar is getting all the benefits of Dragonriding in 10.2.5, it’s still not a mount because it still gets deactivated when you land.

I can see the Transmog issue, but lucky I think I found a good looking mog on my Dracthyr, even though I haven’t played it since getting it out of the starting area.

I really want to make a Dracthyr Warrior.

Honestly, I hope they’re unfinished compared to what I think they actually are, which is just poorly finished.

Plenty of people have vocalized their frustrations to little avail

Of course they feel unfinished. They have only one class in a game where everyone else has upwards of eleven, their real forms can only display four pieces of armor, and their visage forms don’t even have a unique combat stance like the other casters; they use their unarmed stance, which is somehow even worse than warlocks still using the same stance as mages. For like a week or two in DF season 1, they also had a bug that caused staves to be visible on their backs in their real forms instead of being hidden because of their wings.

Of course, if you want to talk unfinished, Kul Tirans were added in 8.0 and somehow made it to live with no sleeping animation, so the NPCs in Sagehold slept standing up and frozen, they weren’t given proper support for helms until closer to release in 8.1, and on release were plagued with absurd vertex errors. Female Zandalari also had a bug on release that caused some spells to take longer than normal to proc. I don’t know if dracthyr had similar problems, but they seemed pretty stable on release in comparison.

the reason why is that their dragon form re-uses the incubus rig and that’s only set for showing hats and shoulders like every other non playable race thing (wotlk tuskar, the messed up spiky red orcs in tbc, im pretty sure vrykul too) and they were too lazy to set it up for equipping gear

Well written Op. the reasons you stated are exactly why every dracthyr uses a toy to change forms.

They barely featured as a C plot in what should have been an expansion story that featured them prominently.

We’re never even given a reason as to why they’d join The Alliance or Horde at all.

How could they possibly feel finished when none of the world building homework needed to mesh them into the setting was even started.

Really? I’ve never had that problem. When I change between my forms the Transmog window changes along with it.

They should’ve be given more armour customisations in the barbershop for their armor to be honest.

OR …

When completing an Evoker Dracthyr set — Unlock an entire ‘Dragon-model’ set via the barbershop to utilise for the Dragon form. Overtime, you’ll be able to mix & match etc — Heck since the barbershop is separate from Transmog, that means you could have a separate appearance for your dragon model & visage model.

Worgen players to Dracthyr:

This is also a good point that I forgot about. DF tried to juggle so many plots that there was little space for the dracthyr to flourish, and what they got was almost entirely focused on Emberthal and Sarkareth. Shortly after we killed the latter, their presence in the expansion just flat-out evaporated in favor of yet another night elf story.

Compare to WotLK and Legion, which were pretty straightforward “stop the destruction of all you hold dear” plots the whole way through, and their respective new classes managed to remain relevant to the end by simply having personal missions of revenge against their villains. Not even pandaren suffered the ignominy of having their expansion hijacked by another race before it was even over and they still had major characters appear in the last raid, which says a lot about how dracthyr were mishandled.

  • No transmog options.
  • Only one body type.
  • Only got one half of two races for visage (human and blood elf)
  • Only one class

Yep… looks pretty unfinished to me. I would give it a try, if they would open up all races for visage, but I’m not interested in being a female human or a male belf and I don’t like the reskined female Worgen model with scales… so… yeah.

Dracthyr aren’t Dragons.

Their Visage magic is far weaker and they just woke up.

What you see is what you get.
