This item is required for the new upgrade system, for cauldrons, and for other things as well. To make them, you need alchemists to transmute them, one at a time, on a very substantial cooldown. The materials cost tens of thousands of gold, not including the value-add from the alchemist and enchanter.
This is way, way to expensive for something we’re going to need a whole lot of just to play the game. Gating upgrades with huge gold sinks is bad for the game.
The cost of these also makes the phial cauldron completely worthless for progression raiding (where the correct answer is generally versatility phials, which are much cheaper to just buy individually).
Alchemy overall is far too expensive of a profession for what you’re getting. The material cost for these things need to be reduced substantially and the CD should be taken off the transmute.
Pushing people to buy wow tokens just to play the game is pretty awful and it’s not something that should continue.
Zaralek Glowspores 300 at ~45g each = 13,500g
Silken Gemdust 50 at ~15g each = 750g
Total = 14,250g in mats
Dracothyst are currently going for 16,870g each.
And all of this is before they’re even usable for anything
Prices are going to skyrocket, over their already unreasonably high price, next week when there is demand for them.
Rank 3 Vers phials cost 34g each right now. A cauldron has 40 charges of two phials each for a maximum of 80 phials. The “value” of a cauldron is 2,720g.
While I wholeheartedly agree, this is a player driven issue.
Just like at the start of the expansion Awakened orders could go anywhere from 1-2K plus, Glowspores/dracothyst is that now. Given time it will fall to a fifth of its price now, or less.
Where did I say prices wouldn’t drop eventually? The prices will never, ever drop enough to make them reasonable, though. Not with how long it takes to farm glowspores. The phial cauldron is dead on arrival because of this one item–despite all the other mats being expensive too.
Even at 1/5 the current price, that would still be way too expensive. I disagree that this is a player driven issue–the materials required and the time it takes to farm those materials are set by Blizzard. If you go farm 300 glowspores and use a daily cooldown to make the thing, it’s fair t o expect to be well compensated for your efforts. The effort required, however, is unreasonable and will make the game more expensive to play, both in gold and in dollars, for many players.
I also doubt we will see big drops in the next few weeks while everyone is gearing up. There is basically no market for these now, and that’s going to change next week as new recipes that use them become available and the upgrade currency becomes available too.
Dracothysts should rise tomorrow in pricing, the actual demand will hit and there is like only 6k pieces for the entire NA region.
The problem also is the recipe is gated by dumb barter bricks. I would have learned to make them on my alts if it wasn’t for the barter brick restriction to learning the recipe.
Good chance dracothysts may spike to 30k come tomorrow, it’s gonna be like the damn Progenitor Essentia for SL legos.
I remember on my server Prog Essence were selling for 8k each before the raid/crafting recipes hit. Once people could make legos they rose to like 40k each.
Got a feeling Resonant Crystals will spike big again too around 300g each again as the demand hits.
Probably Gem Dust will Rally huge too from 15g each to 20 again.
