Death Knight and Demon Hunter
Death Knights have an ability that just straight up heals them for 10% plus extra over a course of time
Demon Hunters have so much leech that every hit they get healed for half of it
I dunno, Ferals with clearcasting for instant rejuves can be pretty nice
Fury Warrior does ok.
According to people who Blizzard has given money to for their insight into game design and class balance, mages have self healing because they have Blink and free food.
Demon Hunters, hands down.
Retribution Paladin. Not even a contest.
Flash of Light, which can be spec’d to be instant.
Word of Glory, instant big heal.
Lay on Hands.
Divine Shield.
Blessing of Protection.
Shield of Vengeance.
Plus Azerite, Essences, etc etc.
Thing is most other dps specs rely on combat to heal, or they are limited to one or two sources. Paladins have at the very least 3 lives on every encounter.
Edit: while DH orbs are great, you need to engage in order to generate them. Same with DKs, same with rogues w/cheat death and improved crimson vial.
Druids are a close third but personally the potency of the heals don’t match it.
Monks may be a very close second. And with their super mobility, maybe even better.
I still think Retribution has the best heals. Their spec might be garbo right now, but they have great heals.
Does fury warrior get better self heals when geared? I have a 120 warrior thats collecting dust atm. Do they get better self heals with azerite traits or is it just enraged regen and bloodthirst and battle trance?
Destro is designed to stand still and outheal/outdamage every other class.
If you want to play a class that autowin and never run away vs every class, play Destro.
DH
While others can theoretically heal for more, they have to stop dealing damage (casting Shadow Mend) and/or invest resources (Death Strike) to do so. The DH doesn’t have to even think about it, in fact it is rewarded for not thinking and just continue facerolling their way through all content.
Does Ret get any faster paced? It just seems slow to me but highest I’ve gotten on ret is 26 or so. I have a 110 paladin (2 actually, can’t remember why) but he played mostly Holy.
I just finished leveling a Paladin. No, it doesn’t, you will continue to press four buttons for all eternity.
Retribution, like all Paladins is very gear dependent. It does get better with the right gear, but your rotation will not change. It has small moments if you play Divine Purpose and get a good string of procs, but that’s about it. It’s a very boring melee at the moment. You can burst in rando-BGs but there are easily half other melee specs that are more fun at the moment. Fury Warrior, Havoc DH and Outlaw Rogue being some examples.
Monks flat out have to stop dps to get a heal in unless they’ve killed something. DKs can death strike, which is boosted if they have killed something, but still effective if not and has no cast time. The energy spent on healing hurts dps.
Granted, death strike is less damage than either frost strike or death coil, the gap is small. Other than an unholy epidemic build, there isn’t a major use for that runic power when there is self healing that could be done instead (the frost options all have cooldowns).
Runic power is limited, but not as limited as mana for enhance, elemental, or balance when healing.
Ret’s self healing is pretty good, though, but you have to cast. The mana cost doesn’t hurt much, though. I don’t know why ret can self heal better than enhance, but it’s true.
Something to consider:
Many non-hybrid classes will have higher self healing on meters at the end of any given encounter / dungeon / whatever vs hybrid classes, so you’re going to see a lot of those as having the “best” self healing.
However, the benefit of having a dedicated heal is that you control when you heal. You can deal with bursty damage better as specs like Ele Shaman, Shadow Priest, etc than something like a DH or Fury Warrior can. At least in terms of undoing the damage – I’m sure you could argue about mitigation and such plenty. I don’t know enough about every class to talk about that.
Hybrid DPS like DPS Druid, Shaman, Shadow, Ret, and especially Shadow have some good healing and off healing potential. Warlocks also have some good self-healing in the form of drain life.
DKs who death strike when they have a Holy Priest in the group are wasting the priest’s ability to force multiply and let them tunnel damage.Save that for HoT healers, especially those who can stance dance like RDruid.
My Fury Warrior does not have the cloak yet, no special traits or essences and no corruption effects at all.
He’s ilvl 400ish and does real well at staying alive, I can only imagine it gets even better with gear, I’d recently dusted him off myself and I’m very much enjoying it.
Is that a Jedi version of Naruto’s bunshin no jutsu?
Believe it!
