My demo lock has been booted from raids based on low DPS. I have changed my rotation and talents recommended online. I practice on dummys and have noticed that, with the exception of imps, my other demons do not show damage in combat log. I tried each (Vile Fiend, Felguard, Grimoire, etc) separately to test and no damage is shown in log. Should these be shown? Is this a glitch? Shouldn’t DPS include demon damage? Thanks in advance for your time.
Make sure your pets are on assist and not passive. This is a huge thing because when you summon tyrant pitlord grimoire everything except imps wont actually attack, they will just stand next to you waiting for you to press pet attack.
Thanks, I have and still forget to change from passive to active, old age, but they are attacking dummies and seeing damage done to them, but not reflected in log. Thanks for reminder
Your pets are attacking. I looked at your logs. You really need to go watch a video or something. I’m not a demo expert so I won’t really comment too much but you only cast 3 shadowbolts the whole fight I’m looking at which I’m pretty sure is way too low. I’m not sure if you are hard casting demonbolt, but you don’t wanna do that. You need to cast power Siphon more and you absolutely need to push call dreadstalkers more.
Also, you are just not casting enough of anything. You have 57% downtime on N Kazzara and you didn’t die. You really just need to look at a guide or something and practice on the training dummies.
I’m sure someone who really plays demo can help you out more but I think that should at least get you some idea.
Thanks, I got the add on for damage and started out low practicing on dummies. After awhile I was able to get it up to 44k dps which for 422 ilvl is better, but not good enough. Noticed keeping stalkers in fight raised dps.
I cast a lot of demonbolt over shadowbolts because it is instant.
I do move around to much saving my butt. So your right I need to figure that out. Thanks for input.
Try hekili or hero rotation add-ons.
I play a demo as well in classic. You are not alone when it comes to the low dps. And I’m betting your parse (hate this in the game) is in the toilet too. You can change everything you do. It wont fix it I’ve found out. What I have discovered is that if you are not doing the exact cookie cutter of what Blizz has set forth, your dps will suffer. That’s everything from gear, gems, buffs, food buffs, pet for the fight. My dps/parse even went up when I took my shirt off. If it has an item level, its factored in. Is it a glitch in the system? I say it is. It also sounds like what they have called a utility lock in the past. You move, you survive, you may even end up at the end of a fight alive while others have been dead for some time. I also found that my computer had something to do with too. Double check requirements just to make sure. They’ve changed along the way. Always try to keep improving, but you play your toon to the best of your abilities.
It took me a bit to learn demo. I wasn’t a fan of the spec when I first tried it, now it’s my favorite. I had to watch a few videos before I really got the basics down. Even then I had to sit at the target dummy for a bit just to get it down.
Just remember to try to never cast hand of Guldan with less than 3 soul shards. And NEVER hard cast demonbolt. only cast it with a demon core proc that makes it instant.
This right here is important to note. You NEVER hardcast demonbolt. Shadowbolts build your shards which leads to your Hands of Guldan and your imp damage (which is always big damage in ST). More imps = more dps. Dreadstalkers is always used on CD unless you’re lining them up with Tyrant or Netherportal. Power siphon gets you ready for a “burn” or lets you dps on the move.
Right off the bat if you’re hardcasting Demonbolt instead of your shadowbolt fillers you’re doing it wrong.
Does anyone else max Dreadstalkers out to 30, or is that just me?
Dont do that, cast dogs on cooldown. Only consider holding dogs for a little while if you are about to line them up with your tyrant.
so demo stats and trinkets are kinda big but also so is your rotation, make sure 4sec before pull u are hard casting demon bolt (the only time it’s ok to hard cast it) then pop nether portal, felguard, dog and then dread stalkers. then power symphony for shards and cast hand of gulf and 2-3 times depending on your haste. at 5 sec left on portal cast tyrant to extend your current demons and dump the 5 shards into hand of guldans, i like to always cast them at 3 shards. then while you are waiting for cd’s to come back to go back into ur burst window it’s just popping power syphin on cooldown for shards and casting 3 shard hand of guldans.
wow logs is really nice because you can look at top parsers for their class and view their whole rotation broken down on a timeline.
demo is really stat and gear depended and also major ally benefits from high haste and PI along with trinkets.
just keep practicing and watching guides and you will get it, took me a little bit after the rework to get used to the new play style when they removed meta
i’m not the best or a top parser but i hope i helped
This is your entire problem. I looked at your logs and you’re spending way too much time trying to decide what to cast next (or moving when you don’t need to). You need to cast more Shadow Bolts, which will generate more shards, so you can cast more Hand of Gul’dan. Your casts per minute on those is way too low. You should be casting I’d say about 3-5x as many of each in a fight over what I saw in your logs.
When in doubt, cast a Shadow Bolt and think while it’s casting. When an instant Demonbolt procs, hit it. If you have 3+ shards, cast Hand. Do everything else on cool down. That may not provide the absolute optimal DPS, but right now trying to figure out what will is slowing you down way too much.
Other notes:
I can’t see your spec from the logs, but I did notice a lack of Fel Barrage, so you might want to double check that your single target spec is right, because you probably should be using Inquisitor’s Gaze. Your spec on the armory right now looks good for AoE though.
Also use Tiered Medallion Setting to put more sockets on your neck, and buy some spellthread for your pants.
LOL this is absolute nonsense.
Well, RIP demo.
They said we are doing this to fix the valleys. Yeah, the valleys are exactly the same and the initial burst is gone. Last week was pulling 125-140k on some encounters now it is just 95k lol.
God awful, you guys do not know what you are doing. But please put a hold on my account just because I said “s.h.t”
unfreakingbelievable
If your not getting PI you should see a increase in dps, if you were getting PI before this change your peaks will be slightly lower but your valleys will be higher resulting a dps neutral to a small 0.5-1% nerf.
If your dps has reduced considerably it is not the fault of the class but more of your personal play changing or the circumstances of the dps you were doing before.
Dude I can screw it up sure, but damn by a30-40k? it doesn’t make any sense. DO you think it makes sense tell me please.
Without looking at logs I can’t tell you if its personal difference or something external like your getting PI on one pull and then not on the other. However what I do know is the changes to demo are basically neutral in terms of dps before and after, you just have to cast a lot more during your non ramp.
Bud, I know what I am talking about. I didn’t get any PI. But the change is there, you can feel it. And honestly you cannot say anything without seeing my logs. so spare me some please
No but I can tell you that your dps difference should be very small from the rework and obviously something has either changed from your skill or the external factors in your guild.
I can with 100% accuracy say that if your dropped 30-40k then it probably is a problem with personal and external factors, however I can’t pinpoint it without you giving logs.
