DPS is To Easy

Its nothing but a rotation in PvE.

Blizzard needs to step up the game play requirements for DPS because as it currently stands, it doesn’t require any amount of decision making.

Do you have any suggestions on how they could remedy this?

Must be your first mmo as all the other mmos are the exact same way. And yep, FFXIV, ESO, etc. are all the same no matter how you want to try and say they aren’t.

Literally every MMO has a DPS rotation. WoW has the benefit of having by far the most fluid and responsive combat out of any of them.

Higher levels of PvE require pretty tough DPS checks as well as decision making due to mechanics of bosses. What general content is “too easy” as I think you could try harder content and find it more entertaining if you truly feel that way.

yeah make it such that the game play isn’t purely about an optimized rotation that DPS just spam out ad nauseam until the boss is dead.

Take the emphasis of fights away from raw damage would be a good start I think.

Replace raw damage abilities with new game play elements.

Make it such that you can’t just burn everything down as fast as possible… or if you are, it causes a negative effect. Make is so that DPS needs to stop and other abilities need to be used more often and with skill and precision.

Could bring in more things that are needing interrupts/CC? Have “bad” spawn that you have to get out of, that reduces your damage done by x% every y seconds (instead of being damaged while in the bad, which makes it easier to argue for standing in the bad to pump numbers)?

If it’s so easy link some rank 1 parses to show me you mastered your class. Hell I will take even 90th percentile.

You CLEARLY don’t raid very much if you think that’s how every single fight plays out.

There’s a huge amount of nuance to cooldown timings this tier, as has been the case this entire expansion, to a degree we’ve seen VERY little of prior to this expansion.

There are plenty of boss fights where DPS needs to be toned downed or paced out in order to avoid mechanics that can cause a wipe.

Imagine if this was an RPG where maybe the dps need to keep doors open, lower drawbridges, or help people up ledges. Maybe work an elevator like a hamster.
Dang what a magical thought when a dungeon is more than a hallway with wack a mole targets.

Just because someone has mastered a rotation doesn’t mean it isn’t a boring game mechanic.

It’s the very act of dealing damage as a rotation that’s boring and too easy.

It’s always been that way. Thank you for finally realizing this 18 years later.

CC, interrupts, and off-heals for appropriate dps classes would disagree with you.

You haven’t actually done anything in game

Yes, this.

Make rogues need to sneak around and open up locked doors, or sneak around mobs to steal an key or item that needs to be used elsewhere.

FFS anything would be better than hitting the same rotation of abilities over and over again as efficently as possible.

Theres a mechanic like this in a BFA dungeon after the first boss, Tol Dagor(?).

Edit: Only to say, it’s not a new idea, it’s pretty cool being in a group with a rogue that knows they can do it too.

More of the same boring stuff that they might need to add into their rotation every once in a while.

What remains that that the main focus of DPS classes is to sit around spamming their rotation.

During the boss fight I need to shadowstep up to a platform, use lockpick to quickly unlock the panel that allows my group access to the interior section, where we all use our defensive abilities to withstand the heat coming off the steam tanks. I’m then greeted with a wall of targets that I must manually aim my poisoned knife at to disable the bosses special ability. We then head back out where I disarm the add mob, blind him to prevent him from picking up his weapon, then kidney shot to further reduce his movement. Finally I smoke bomb my group to an aoe vanish shroud so we can move undetected back to the boss platform and position ourselves behind him to continue dpsing.
