Helped kill Konthrogz today. I’m ilevel 228, and I popped every CD I had, including lust, and managed to pull 3.6K DPS.
Another enhance shaman in the same fight with ilevel 241 did 9.3K!
Should item level alone account for this DPS difference, or do I still need to learn how to play this class after 14 years?
Well, just a peek at your armory reveals that you’re not very optimized.
For single target you are running the wrong legendary, wrong talents, wrong covenant, really bad trinkets and you also do not have any dom sockets.
You may also just not have an optimized rotation, but the above items will have a severe effect on your dps even if you played perfectly. Then yes, of course if you were 20 ilvls higher thats probably another few thousand dps right there

Bit of both. I’m not going to go into detail, but my 200 ilvl shaman can do nearly 2.5-3k ST sustain
Is Doomwinds no longer the go-to choice? It’s been about 6-7-8 months since I’ve last played but I thought that was the Enhance go-to ?
OP needs to remember we had a level and item level squish, so those 20-40 points in ilvl difference is huge.

Hmm, 100% drop for the memory in level 3 or above Torghast… Doable, and I can easily afford the base item, but I only have 5455 Soul Ash and 145 cinders. so many more weeks of maw assaults to do for a legendary switch.
My rotation is to hit whatever is off CD, leading with ones that have highlights on. And, wait for things to come off CD when none are up.
Since I’m not doing any group content, so AH and Korthia gear are the best available to me. I’ll look into a covenant swap now that the penalties are less severe than before. But, I’d hate to lose Door of Shadows…
Honestly probably not worth it, as a lot of this stuff is only good for extended single target stuff. I’d say if you are just running around in the world you’re good with what you have and I would just play what you find fun 
Item level is not everything. You need correct stats and if you perform your rotation correctly.
you could just do layer 9 like 5 times
there’s no weekly lockout anymore

Don’t neglect to sim your build. Raidbots says you could get 6.2k from your current setup, so I’d examine your rotation if you’re that far from the sim dps.
