With all the changes that have happened and are happening, what are the major negatives of playing on a really low pop server?
Low guilds pop, low body count to kill rares, less crafters, etc.
but the upside to a low pop servers is the open world mount farming will be easy
Low population was great for running quests and not being annoyed…but then its harder to find buyers for my crap on the AH.
Aren’t all guilds cross server and cross faction now?
Yeah I never use the AH to sell . Occasionally I buy stuff but that stuff is global now.
That was literally the reason I was thinking on moving to one… just worried about “missing” something I didn’t take into consideration.
Hmm yeah. On “current” content the amount of people to take down rares would be minimal huh?
I play mostly on low to Med pop realms and prefer it tbh. Current content zones are fine, because of crz anyways, so you really don’t have to worry about getting things done that might require a few others/ elite mobs,wq’s, etc.
Cross faction yeah, not cross server. And for the “mount farming” thingie, you can always have a dedicated character to do that, you don’t need your main character to do it. Servers are crz anyway so saying there’s less people farming the mounts isn’t necessarily true.
Forbidden Reach must blow on low pop since bosses have massive health pools
Unless there’s a critical mass of players on the Forbidden Reach, the map will be covered in rare markers and stay that way for a long, long time.
They need to lower the boss and elites damage and hp after 10.1 as the reach will be a ghost town then.
I expect the reach will be a ghost town no matter what once 10.1 gets going. The rares are already borderline soloable with several classes just with the world gear available, so I expect as the tiers keep coming, it will quickly be easy to return to farm up any missing items/achievements.
But if participation drops off in the caverns as quickly as it did in the reach, it might be a bit demoralizing spending months on a low-pop server.
Playing on a low population server is probably the worst thing you could do. You don’t understand how different it is until you make the switch.
Play on a full server. Play on a low server.
It’s hard to explain until you see it yourself. It’s like you are playing a completely different game.
There’s no raiding guilds, no activities. Can’t do any of the harder content because there is no one to group with or help kill rares etc. It’s really depressing actually. All of my main characters are on this server and I’m stuck here. I’ve been here since 2005 so, it’s not like I chose this. It used to be a busy server with a lot of RP/PVP and PVE but that’s been dead for years and Blizzard refuses to let us transfer off without serious $$$$. Also, stuff is WAY more expensive on our AH. Reach is already a ghost island on my server, tried to do it last night and at any given period, I was one of 3 others there total.
I don’t have any negatives. I never have to wait long for M+ groups to fill up. There’s always stuff on the AH when I need it and I see plenty of people out in the world when I’m doing stuff. Trade is less stupid topics. Best of all, there is never a queue time to long in to the server.
Only real downside I’ve personally encountered with low population servers is AH items tend to be much pricier than on high population servers.
That is matter of playstyle, I play both on full and low populated servers and I prefer low populated one, there is much lower chance on low pop to meet the kind of people I dont like.
It is basically the same as village vs big city comparison. Both have pros and cons.
Not as many people to interact with? I guess.
I have a character on a low pop server and the biggest issue is content you can’t solo, like the elites in the Reach that you need to kill for the vault keys.
Also, you almost never lag nor have queues during patch/expansion launch
People pre-judge you when you pop up in their M+ applicants list
