So I just updated numerous components in my computer, including adding a SSD. I uninstalled all my games and apps to reinstall on the new SSD. When im selecting this location for the download, it says that the download size is much bigger because data sharing is not enabled. It went from 12g to 72g for retail alone.
What data is trying to be shared for the reduced download size? Is this something that I can / should turn on?
The different versions of WoW share some assets. You’re likely missing the base assets needed, since it’s a fresh install.
Could it just still be lingering in my c drive? If it was, in theory I should just be able to share from there?
You said that you uninstalled all games in the first post, so it doesn’t sound like it? But if the uninstall was not complete, then yes, it’s possible.
I just looked through my c drive and saw the original wow folder from when I first installed it on my computer.
Just now I did the uninstall through battle.net . Not sure if that fully removes everything or just the game files itself?
If you have multiple versions of the game installed, it would only remove things that are specific to that version but retain the base/shared assets.
I did have retail and classic both installed, and just uninstalled them both. Seems like I screwed something up here lol.
You may have files for a PTR or beta client as well. Ultimately, you could wipe out the folder and start with a fresh install. I don’t recommend pointing to assets for the game on a separate drive. Additionally, you may want to make the SSD your main drive if the original is mechanical it will affect the performance of the entire system.
