Hey, kinda just looking for input. My friend and I plan to play together a lot and we were both thinking about Shaman. He is unsure if 2 shamans will work in 5 mans at end game to get our Pre-BiS. I don’t think it’s too big a deal.
First off, can a shaman dps in 60 5mans and hold up some good numbers?
Secondly, would both of us working towards resto pre-BiS be so bad we should not bother grouping together?
I know this may be dumb questions, but maybe someone has experience running two of the same class in 5 mans at 60. Or something of the sort!
Any class can DPS 5 mans well enough. Elemental is probably your best bet DPSing 5 mans as a shaman. You’ll run out of mana quick but the fights don’t last all that long so it should be fine.

I played with a lot of shaman friends. We did plenty of dungeons with 2-3 shamans.
Pretty sure we did 5 shaman once, though there might have only been four of us, I’m not entirely sure on that one.
It will take longer to get gear, definitely, if you both want the same gear, but that’s going to happen anytime if you have two of the same class looking for the same gear.

Thanks you guys! I figured it won’t be that big a deal, just be more dungeon runs to get a full set of gear
You both want to be resto shaman? Doable, but not a great idea if you intend to play a lot together. Someone should be flexible and switch.
As in switch classes or specs?
Preferably class, role and armour type so you synergise better.
I main elemental shaman and I’ve been in m+ with resto shaman healing us. It wasn’t a problem. In fact it will be easier for you to gear up as unneeded loot can be passed between you. Only one healer is needed per dungeon so one of you would have to go dps, either elemental or enhancement. That’s what the other poster meant by ‘switching’ just switch so one is dps and one is resto.
Edit: tbh there is nothing much stopping you from taking turns dpsing and healing if you get bored with either. I switch all the time in group and in raids depending on if dps or heals is needed.
Edit: just realised this is classic discussion so Im not sure you can switch that easy in classic. About the loot sharing I’m not that sure either.
Yea, that’s not out of the question. Thanks for your input
Until people get geared, they’re going to be stacking CC heavy, and shamans don’t have any. That will hurt your group prospects early cause you actually have to CC in instances. It’ll ease up once people get geared, my vanilla warrior had to carefully balance the number of uncc’d mobs once he got to decent gear. Tank too many, and the healer gets agro and dies. Tank too few, and you’re rage starved and the dps die.
If you really want to both play shamans, I’m sure you can pull it off, but it would be less frustrating if you took complimentary classes rather than duplicate shamans, since they don’t stack very efficiently.

one thing i like and dislike about Classic is the amount of CC per pull. i remember finally getting used to healing at 60 then having to keep a skellie shackled in Scholomance. im pretty sure i didnt evem count to 10 before redoing it. lol
That’s the beauty of vanilla and especially a priest, so much utility a single class can bring.
Try doing Live Strat as a Warlock and the only CC. Succy seduce and Fear juggling, sometimes 2-3 mobs at a time, without pulling adds. Even drain tanking a caster sometimes. That was fun times. Needing CC in dungeons was the best.

Yeah, no you cannot. In Classic it’s very expensive to constantly switch specs.
Best shaman combo for dual leveling is resto/ele and then enhancement. That way you’re not fighting over gear as much. Plus in dungeons you can have 1 heal and the other tank. Yeah, tank, it’s tricky sometimes, but if ppl take their time and watch their threat it very doable and again just the benefit of not fighting over gear is the best. And obviously, the more happy fun totems you can drop the better.
There are some good shaman tanking guides out there, i’d give them a peek if you might be into that style. Otherwise, for sure elemental will do most of the damage on the highend compared to enhancement. At least, from what i’ve seen on damage charts.
YES, you can level and run dungeons (level 1-60) together as double shaman, your specs don’t matter because all three specs can heal/Heal totem - Dps/lightning bolt/shocks + elemental rotation (tanking- Earth/ Dps- fire)
you will be able to 2-man most dungeons up to BRD
You will collect plenty of early MC/ZG Pre-raid blues,
you will NOT be able to collect BIS because of the gear curve,
and you will not be able to 2-man Scholomance/Stratholm/LBRS
UBRS/or DM East/West/North to collect the pre-raid BiS.
IF you both really take your time and grind out BRD 200 times,
you might 2-man LBRS very slowly, or even DM - its VERY gear dependant (and might include a lot of skill on your part)
so top answer your question - Answer : how much time do you guys have to play together?
A group of friends and I did several 5 shaman dungeons at 60, we even got the epic shaman hat quest done in Scholo or whatever it was.
Every single class can contribute in 5-mans. Put down the DPS meter and just enjoy the content.
Why on earth would you be fearing in a 5-man?

Trying to level in tandem with a friend playing the same class as you will be a bit clunky. You will be competing with each other for gear. Your class utility overlaps. People will probably snub you on group invites from time to time.
All that said, if you really both want to play shaman then just do it anyway. Most people aren’t going to have fun just because they’re playing the most optimal world-beater spec or composition.

If you make a nice long pull then fear is a very useful CC
