Seems to be a fair number of posts about Arms being lackluster. I propose a specialization talent that gives Arms a percentage chance to double attack whilst auto attacking. Like the old Sword Specialization talent or HoJ trinket. Also like the Double Attack skill from EverQuest. EQ had Riposte too which was an actually useful version of the Retaliate talent. Regardless, there’s a precedent both within a former Arms talent tree and WoW’s spiritual predecessor.
It should function exactly like an additional melee attack. In theory, a considerable buff on top of the boosted auto attack damage in Midnight and change to Arms mastery. Even so, I’d continue to play Fury as I jive more with the playstyle. Surely this idea will have a positive reception.
How does this improve gameplay in any meaningful way?
This was an awful mastery due to being linked to ST only, this is not something you want from a tuning pov as it makes you need to carry different gearsets between ST and AoE situations which is a right pain in the rear.
Legion’s version as a talent was cool, however I also think this is a little vestigial.
Due to one reason alone… Slayer.
Slayer has follow up attacks in it’s procs of Slayer’s Strikes being practically this but renamed and with better effects attached to it alongside and AoE variant of Reap the Storm.
Now if we wanted to make actual oGCD ‘follow up attacks’ akin to FF14s Gunbreaker or Viper that could fit with Arms giving it a combo that you will hit inbetween some GCDs, but WoW’s GCD is a little too short without letting this get out of hand fast if they make the proc rate for it a little too good.
The posts that are bellyaching about the spec don’t have contention with the design, for the most part, but rather the damage. This double attack talent would serve as a flavorful callback to a former talent the specialization had and a buff to damage without conflicting with the streamlined philosophy of Midnight. Could give it a unique punchy sound effect when it procs for a dopamine hit.
Went to go take a look at Slayer’s Dominance because I could’ve sworn it specified that it procced from ability damage. It simply says that attacks against the primary target have a 15% chance to trigger it. If it does just proc from ability damage, then Double Attack would be distinct and complementary to Slayer’s Strike. If, instead, it does proc from melee attacks then this hypothetical talent would synergize with it.
I would hop in game to test but as of the latest update I’m getting a fatal error.
I’ll be blunt, does it really matter where Slaying Strikes and Reap the Storm proc from? They’re still follow up attacks in essence exactly what Sword Spec/ Strikes of Opportunity/Opportunity Strikes were in the past most of which was tied to ability damage as well.
Auto attacks are hidden by in large by your ability animations you almost never notice them in any spec, even the ones that don’t value haste.
Even then Shaman’s buff Skyfury alongside the mastery increase is the driver for a follow up auto attack which makes all warrior specs preferring a shaman to be present any time they do m+ even more so in Midnight.
Honestly your ‘suggestion’ does not do anything that isn’t already being done by hero talents (Slayer for Arms and Fury) or via a group buff provided by another class that helps resource generation. So it seems kinda a moot point to even discuss as elements of it already exist just not in the way that you want it to as a passive, nothing is gained from removing elsewhere for what you’re suggesting.
