I beg to differ, look at the breast cancer research donation they made through Overwatch, also they make a ton of money at blizzcon auctions. They also make random donations throughout the year to smaller charities without all the press attached. This is one campaign tis all.
This topic reminds me of a scene in Charlie Brown’s Christmas. Linus tells Charlie Brown that he is the only person I know who can take a perfectly good holiday, and turn it into a problem.
It’s a thing that needs to be fixed, they also flag people they disagree with in the same way, it’s sad that some feel the need to validate oneself through dishonest means.
theyd have to donate 600 million to hit 10% which is why i linked their third quarter earnings report
Agreed. I only flag people who are outright breaking the code of conduct. Disagreeing with me is not a reason.
(It totally should be though, cause I’m always right! Just ask my ex… I kid)
I mean its entirely possible that they could be at 597 million currently but thats not in their earnings report so i dont know for sure
Then for me the problem is solved. If the sticker goes once the goal is reached then this is ok.
Oof… Wowsers… Guess I’ll go donate directly.
This is ABSOLUTELY not something I could let my pet Lhasa get anywhere near cough he would think its a sex toy cough.
…The third quarter results, which are publicly available online, which i linked, which says at the end of third quarter 2019 their net revenue is 6.315 billion. and they are required to report donations on their financial reports which is slightly different than the third quarter reports. I may seem to think im an expert on this but thats only because im an accountant and its kinda my job to know these things
Your tin foil hat is on WAY too tight.
Yes, with Blizzard and other companies.
I can’t recall which company, but I saw another such thing recently. It was so much per sale of a food item, or something, within a period of months, that went to charity. So if they hit that amount early, they’d still be making money off the food item but not contributing that (of course.)
Whether or not the intent was to drive token sales doesn’t negate the objective influence to sell more tokens.
At best I guess it would be a convenient side effect to whatever their main objective was.
The timing of it all I think was what made it seem really weird. At the beginning of BfA would have made more sense.
This is also a national advertisement for a charity event. Once the $3 million charity goal is reached, they legally cannot advertise it as a charity item anymore. It would need to be re-listed.
They cannot profit from the sale while it is labeled as a charity sale. They must re-list it for sale for profit before they can collect (which Blizzard does and has done in the past, once the charity event reached it’s time-limit). Currently, over 40 states and the District of Columbia have charitable solicitation statutes. These laws cover a wide range of “solicitation” activities - including charitable sales promotions - and can subject violators to significant fines and even criminal penalties.
Advertisements must be compliant with the laws of each state in which they run and most state laws have similar components: a written contract with the charitable organization, per-unit disclosure of donation amount, disclosure of beneficiary. Some states also require registration and bonding. Most of the time, if the ad is transparent and truthful, it’s going to be fine wherever you run it.

Which pets in the store are still listed as charity? You guys should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves.
I would guess that 3mil is a high bar. I don’t think 300,000 players buy one pet in the store these days. (300K times $10=$3 mil) I sure could be wrong, but excluding classic players (why would they buy a pet in retail) and the many players who don’t buy anything in the store? I am not sure there is much to worry about.
The plushy sales are probably very small.
I guess, for me, that possibly 3 million is going to charity is great. Blizzard wants the option to make bank on the pet later? No problem.
(Edited for stoopid math error on my part. Point still stands. English major for the win.)
whered you get the pet for 5$ from its listed as 10$ for me
Blizzard has always released how much they give to charity from these sales. They have never gone over $2.5 million.
Yep that is exactly what it means… Bobbie needs a new summer home.
You do realize they are a publicly traded company and all this info is publicly disclosed and you can look it up right now.
