So typically SW:P runs out before VT. At this time, even though VT is still active when SW:P falls off, do I just cast VT again to refresh both at the same time?
Or do I only cast SW:P, cast a few more spells, then refresh VT?

The answer to your question would most likely be relative to movement. If you can stand still to recast VT then do so. If not then just refresh SWP. Logically though, if you’re just going to refresh SWP alone then why take misery at all? In what content are you running misery? In almost all situations I would say it’s inferior to twist of fate or searing nightmare.
Thanks for the reply!
Honestly I was running misery just to get the hang of the spec, was feeling a little overwhelmed using all the best talents so was going for a more passive approach
This may already be a moot point but: weak auras, weak auras, weak auras. There is not enough that can be said about WAs benefit in keeping up dots. I would say any shadow priest that says they have issues with DPS probably has issues keeping dots up. I like bars to track my dots.
You are indeed right I have trouble watching them at times, bars is the name of the weak aura?
No, what I mean is some weak auras you import may be icons that count down numerically. I custom make my own horizontal bar weak auras that are much easier to see out of the corner of my eye than an icon with numbers counting down. I don’t know what your experience is with weak auras but simple custom bars are pretty straight forward. If necessary I could talk to you in game if you need some help setting some up.
Appreciate it man! I’m so new to the class and a dot class in general is different than my warrior, loving the challenge though.
May start with one of the pre made weakauras like Publiks that’s on wagoo and see how I like it.
I’ve never really customized my own weakaura in the past
this is very inaccurate
Sure there are probably some niche situations that misery might be better. Care to elaborate?
I second the incorrectness around Misery, it is typically the stronger option unless you are pulling huge trash packs.
I will gladly trade some dps on smaller trash packs for the ability to contribute greater dps on larger trash packs.
Here is a weakauras I found for maintaining DoTs that I really like. It’s by Krytos in wago.

Misery is better in PvP (although ik this is a PvE post)
Sweet thanks for that!
So I got set up with a weak auras and a plater add on to help my visibility.
Now I’m not used to looking at my weak auras for my spell icons and not my action bars as much.
One thing remember is most dots in the game have something called a pandemic window, of 30%. This means that if a dot has less than 30% of its base duration remaining, you can reapply it and the current duration will be added on to the new dot. For SWP this is 4.8 seconds, and VT 6.3 seconds.
You’ll often be able to refresh both dots while they are both in their pandemic windows, resulting in no loss of damage at all, but even if in a weird circumstance it doesn’t line up perfectly, you should still make sure both dots are on the target by reapplying with VT as pain is about to drop.
Okay perfect, that was what I was looking for, ty
Spires and ToP misery does very well. Anytime you are dealing with average of 3 pack pulls it can do really well since you’d see better damage from spending on DP instead of nightmare.
I also like it for denathrius for the 2nd phase but that’s group dependent. If you feel like you don’t need that extra cleave damage and need more oomph in the burn phase then fate is better
You don’t have to wait for a dot to fall completely off btw, pandemic window is 30%. So refreshing a dot at 30% duration will add that to the new dot. I imagine that applies to SWP from misery but not 100%
I like luxthos weak aura. Good YouTube video on the features if you search it there
