Don't Kick Characters Out of Chromie Time

Very simple suggestion - do. not. kick. players. out. of. Chromie. Time.

I’ve made a character for each expansion, to experience each expansions story lines, particular for ones I missed throughout the years (Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, Battle For Azeroth, and Shadowlands).

My first was a Worgen Druid - managed Battle For Azeroth just fine. I didn’t have Chromie Time so I HAD to do this one first (which is another thing - have Chromie Time for ALL players, not just ones with a level 60). It was fine, since I got to experience the Alliance side of Battle For Azeroth, which I hadn’t done before since my friends at the time wanted to play Horde.

However, I leveled up a Night Elf Druid in Legion to re-experience the Class Hall and Legion story lines - it was the last expansion I played, and wanted to unlock all the Druid forms. I finish Val’Sharah, Azsuna & Stormheim in that order. I reach level 60 in Highmountain. I log off for a while and come back.

Due to it being the Anniversary event, I decided to hop skip back to the Dreamgrove, then to Dalaran, to take a portal to Stormwind, following what the event quest is leading me to do. However, when I arrive in Stormwind, a whooshing golden effect plays, and I realized what happened - it kicked me out of Chromie Time.

I had gotten a quest, warning me I will be removed from Chromie Time at level 61 - that would have been fine since I don’t own Dragonflight, and wanted to play around in the old expansions, so I can’t level to level 61. But, without any warning, it turns out it kicks you out of Chromie Time once you get this quest (which is automatically accepted, and re-appears, playing the Chromie announcement, every time you login - very annoying) and return to Stormwind. So the only way around it would seem to be staying out of Stormwind… the city that has ALL the portals and the only city where you can change Chromie Time…

Now I could continue doing these quests… problem. Everything no longer scales to me - all the mobs are now capped out at 45, so now it’s just trivial to do. Second, I can’t queue for Legion dungeons… I was saving all the dungeon quests for the end, but now my only option is to solo every dungeon myself… boring.

For a new player, now they suddenly are plucked out of their leveling experience, likely in the middle of a story in a zone somewhere (every expansion I’ve leveled in via Chromie Time ends up reaching 60 before all the zones are complete). If they continue to try and level there, they won’t be gaining experience and probably will be confused why.

Retrospectively, sure, I can turn off experience before that quest appears (I think it’s level 60?), or just avoid Stormwind, which is a horrible work around.

The real solution? Don’t kick players out of Chromie Time - let us stay in it until we decide to level. If you really don’t people to use the old expansions to get from 60 to 70, just make it so all experience stops at 60 when in Chromie Time.

So I guess for my next characters, I’ll just turn off experience at 59 or whatever… talk about a horrible experience.

This happened to me today. I found out just talk to Chromie and ask her about the different timelines and select expansions again.

I can confirm that at lvl 61 you get kicked to Stormwind, but on returning to Chromie & asking the right question, you can return to your Garrison in Draenor.
