Don't be afraid to tank and heal!

Greetings!

Now is the best time to try it out. This is a friendly reminder to all of those that are hesitant to tank and heal. There is a dire shortage of us already and the expansion just started. Why wait in the DPS queues when you can hop right into the dungeons? Not to mention you get 900g from the satchel and 3 runes which sell for 400g a piece!

  1. The majority don’t know the dungeons. People are standing in the bad all the time. It comes with the territory of new dungeons. Everyone is learning so you don’t have to be concerned about making mistakes - everyone is!

  2. People don’t know how to play their classes yet. There are new abilities, different talent set ups, covenant abilities, etc. You get to learn your spec like everyone else. There are very few players that are running optimal specs/gear/etc. now. It’s easy to learn how to tank/heal when everyone else is learning how to dps too!

  3. You’ll become a better DPS player. You will become a much better player once you experience tanking and healing first hand. You’ll learn how to avoid stuff, you’re realize how important it is to interrupt things, etc. DPS isn’t just about smashing buttons. You’ll learn to use your whole tool kit and know that you are really helping your tank/healer do their job.

  4. You might really enjoy it! Who knows, it’s always nice to have a change of pace every now and then. Why not give it a go?

  5. Scaling is wonky as you level up. Don’t get discouraged as you heal while leveling up. Your spells don’t heal as much as they should so it is pretty difficult to keep people up. I’ve been healing for years and I have had quite a bit of trouble on certain runs. It is much more simple when you have a group of same level characters. You’ll have terrible runs. It happens. Keep your head up and keep plugging away!

Like I said before, this is an excellent time to learn. Take the next few weeks to get your skills up to par with everyone else and enjoy low queues for the rest of the expansion - and any expansion going forward!

Good luck and enjoy!

I don’t know about this one. I’ve tanked before and I’m still a scrub.

thanks for posting this.

the entire tank/healer shortage and surplus of dps players (which in turn, increases que times) is an issue only the community can “fix”, not the devs…

plus tanking and healing are super fun

(my spec is a good example…i barely spend my time healing, it’s mostly dps anyway lol)

I know I queue as heroic heals whenever the CTA comes up. I’ve gotten at least 8 satchels so far. (Practicing my boomboxing/kittyweaving skills!)

inb4 some whiny dps complains about queue times and suggests a ****ty fix

I usually queue each dungeon as dps first to see the pulls and mechanics on someone else’s dime.

Then I barely tank anyway. Mostly because I’m just tired of tanking pugs after 15 years.

You are hours late on this one good sir or madame as it may be

Yeah, no.
Never pugging.
Too many entitled clowns who think way too highly of themselves.

Unfortunately, I won’t be queuing for dungeons until I learn the runs with guild mates. Even at the start people seem to have zero patience for a healer that needs to learn a new dungeon.

I don’t mind healing on alts once I’m done being dps for awhile. But tanking straight up gives me anxiety attacks. I get mega protective and I always worry if I mess up even a little or don’t go fast enough that people in the group will be mean.

Least with healing most of the time it’s “Well you were being an idiot and died. Not my fault.”

I could just be lucky but my queue times have been pretty good as DPS. They’re not instant like I’d imagine tank/heals get but they’re fast enough.

Who said anything about being afraid? Being afraid has nothing to do with my decision not to tank or heal for pugs. I’ll gladly tank/heal for my guild, but there’s a slim chance that I’ll ever do so for pugs.

Here I got you.

“GOD BLIZZARD WHATS WRONG WITH YOU!? JUST TURN -insert spec here- INTO A TANK SPEC AND GIVE SO MUCH MORE REWARDS! TANKS AND HEALERS SHOULD 100% GET ALL THE LOOT AND BE GUARENTEED BIS GEAR! GET IT TOGETHER!”

I’m not afraid to tank, I just don’t find it fun or entertaining, which is the whole point of playing a video game.

its not 900g u you be 1k with the 92g for the queu.

Good advice, but why do any of it when you could just sit on the forums and complain about long queue times while not doing anything to fix it lol

I didn’t mean that people are “afraid” of tanking/healing right now. I’m just saying that you don’t need to worry about not knowing the instances and such because it is new for everyone. You make a mistake on DPS. You make a mistake on a healer. No big deal. The “mistakes” are “forgivable” now since it is new content. It’s a great time to give it a go.

The healing/tank satchels give 900g and 3 runes. If it almost 2k gold if you sell the runes.

you dont get better at doing DPS you only get better gear, the skillcap for DPS is so low its almost nonexistent in PvE.

Just to note, healing/tanking while leveling is really great practice of all the various skills you need to become a good tank/healer.

Second note, really low level tanking can be super fun because of the scaling, you’ll also be top dps!

Third note, healing is usually harder while leveling, but it teaches you a lot more about using your globals and mana. Again, makes you better in the long run.

Honestly, every time I tried to tank or heal a Dungeon in LFG I got kicked. I reckon it isn’t for me lol
