I mentioned this in another thread but I will put it here hoping a dev might see it and mull it over.
Bans will not fix anything long term. That’s a fact. A better solution IMO would be an account reset.
All toons back to level 1, no money, nothing in the bank, no reputation gains. Straight up level 1. If you ban someone you give them little choice. They go elsewhere. You might have a percentage that will start a new account, true, but why not try reform first?
A streamer gets banned. Great. Now he’s pissed, a reasonable reaction albeit misguided, so he moves on to another game. His followers piss and moan BlizArd has a headache. Bleh.
OR…
Or… he logs in sees his level 1 Orc Warrior staring him in the face. His chat goes nuts. He just stares at the screen. First there’s anger, then resentment and, most likely, acceptance. He logs in and starts the trek over. Why?
Because you gave him a choice. He knows he *ed up but he has a choice staring at him right in the face. Try again or move on. He moves on, he may lose viewers. He tries again, he has an opportunity to retain viewers and continue entertaining. Only this time, when faced with the opportunity to exploit he says, “F THAT! I ain’t gettin reset again.” Now, not only do you still have a streamer bringing exposure to your game you have a streamer ADVOCATING for fair play.
What’s the difference between a ban and a reset? It’s basically the same thing, yeah? No. One gives a choice the other gives you a process. With a reset you have a choice staring you in the face soon as you log in. With a ban you have to create a new account, establish a new payment method, decide on a class, faction and name. It’s a process. A process many will choose to avoid. A hassle.
Give them a choice and you are exponentially more likely to reform than you are if you don’t. Create advocates not detractors. It’s a better business choose; a better community builder.
