–works at a non-profit and laughing at the idea some have suggested that we should work for free when I just spent four days gathering metrics to send to a funder so they could meet their tax obligations and we remain 501(c)(3) compliant rather than actually doing the work we exist for.

This is laughably disingenuous. A percentage of the sales proceeds from the brutosaur mount would’ve been better - and arguably more effective - than this.
I don’t doubt Blizzard will raise money for this (worthy) cause. However, it’s more than a bit gross that they didn’t use the far more popular means (i.e. the brutosaur) with which to do it.
I’ll donate to Cure Duchenne but I’ll do it through my family’s private charitable foundation so Blizzard gets zero from “chargebacks, refunds, transaction fees, and Value Added Taxes (VAT), or other similar taxes paid”. If other players want to do the same, Google “Cure Duchenne”.
