Domination shards disabled

So they didn’t even last one patch. After all that effort people put into farming them, farming that stupid tool to remove or change them. Is this another skill issue from Ion? A whole core raid feature gone.

So, did you want players to be forced to get gear/shards from last tier to be full bis this tier?

Honestly, I am glad they are dead. It was a pain in the butt to juggle them with different armor profile and they masked issues with class balance. I mean for crying out lout the frost set was typically #1 or #2 in sources of damage in raid encounters for DHs.

First off the socket effect would be the only thing working in 9.2 content anyways. Second, blizz is saving the playerbase from itself by doing this now.

People whined about coral, font, draught, convergence of fates, AC lasting as bis for longer than the tier itself.

They still work in Torghast, including in the newly added layers that you can get cosmic flux from.

I’m guessing the new layers might be tuned with people who don’t have domination shards in mind, and they might be a lot easier for people who have upgraded shards and are still using them. I did layer 14 on my mistweaver whose equipped item level is 229 and the recommended item level is 268. It wasn’t that hard even though I believe the strongest monk anima power got nerfed. I didn’t try layer 15 (recommended ilevel 276) but I believe I could probably do it

I feel like people would have probably ended up using some pieces with dom gems over non-tier 278s lol.

Oh that is probably true. The power gain I got from the frost shards was way better than the tier set is going to give me.

They were a poorly designed and even more poorly implemented concept. As many have said, retail patches are a way for Blizzard to test new systems. Blizz introduces a prototype in a raid patch, sees how players react and then implements an updated version in the next expansion. All of them however have been pretty craptacular and haven’t worked out very well, to the point where Blizz has pulled back many times to say “well this didn’t go well”.

However, they continue to create new systems because it’s cheaper on a quarterly basis. Rebuilding specs from the ground up, fixing talents, doing all that balancing etc would take considerable time and resources which would make things look bad to the stakeholders as they flow across multiple quarterly reports. On the other hand, they can pump out a new crummy system once per quarter and no one will bat an eye because in reality they’re not looking back on previous quarterly spends even though in the long term having 4+ systems per expansion ends up costing more across the 2 years than just fixing things initially and likely affects player retention more than they’d like to admit.

9.1 wasn’t one patch?

We knew that months ago. Plus they still work in zones, raids etc where they worked in 9.1 including the new torg wings

are people really so completely oblivious of patch notes and information that was wildly available that they are all surprised when things we all knew was happening happen?

reading is hard for some people :man_shrugging:

I’m surprised your expectations for the people here are still that high

It turns out that the Dom shard makes the Sylvanas bracers with a maxed shard of dyz better than everything short of Mythic Lords of Dread bracers (285) with a socket.

You could say the same thing about corruption in 8.3. we had it for 1 patch, then it was deemed to be a problem to support going forwards, and was nuked from orbit after we put in all that effort to get what we wanted from the vendor.

Blizzard really just needs to stop with the temporary power crap.

It’s not more engaging or interesting.

I’ve been far more exciting getting my 2p in TBCC classic for my T6 bonus than I have ever remotely been excited to get anything blizzards put out in the last six or so years. :\

I was thinking about this today and blizzard is really good at preventing players from reaching equilibrium and being content. There is always a change to keep us off balance so we keep putting time into the game. The fun meta is define your own meta because the real meta is a job.

All I wanted was to keep using the +60 speed gem for legacy content but with it seeming like there are only 3 people coding the game these days (and rumor has it that one of them might be hamsters in a skin suit) I shouldn’t still be surprised when options are limited to “ON/OFF”

Am I missing something or has it been exactly 1 patch?
Anyway. I’m glad they are gone. Write them off and never do anything like them again. I hipe Blizzard openly acknowledge that there were mistakes made so we know they won’t do it again.
