I just started a pandaren to level up to 50 and noticed how strange it is when you really listen to the npcs while doing the Mists of Pandaria quests. The beginning quests treat you like a race that they have never seen before (which might be true for any of the other playable races). You stand there as the same race as the NPC, who talks to you like, “Whoa I’ve never met one of your kind before!” Just kind of funny when you think about it.
Maybe they mean they’ve never met someone from the turtle island.
I suppose that could be true, but it doesn’t excuse the fact that some of the dialogue is a panda explaining pandaren while talking to you like you aren’t also a pandaren.
Wandering Isle is a myth in Pandaria. A children’s tale. To meet someone from Wandering Isle would be pretty aweinspiring for any Pandaren that grew up with that tale.
A dev talked about this before, its because they’ve never seen a pandaren from outside of pandaria, you seem different from what they’re used to and comment on it.
There is even pandaren groups we have never met that are fisherman and for all we know just survive on boats.
Also a thing to note is that pandaren from pandaria live very emotional restrained lives as they have to so they don’t becoming a living horror monster that massacres whole towns.
Emotional is a big thing in pandaria and it can even get you killed or turned into a malefic agent of a dead old god.
I’d also imagine that your pandarian would have different mannerisms. Not only were they raised on the wandering island, they also spent time serving the Horde or Alliance, likely picking up their behaviors too. I do see your point though, but it isn’t too hard to RP around.
I still need to ask people to explain my own culture IRL, like I forget things like IIRC, WAP, took me forever to learn what an edible really was, I just learned what a doover was.
What is a doover?
Go quest in Grizzly Hills as a Worgen. It’s even more hilarious.
Something that confused a lot of people on the forums, it was someone trying to say ‘do over’ as a single word.
I know! They treat me like a human, even though I’m a pandaran monk. To be fair, playable Pandaren are technically not from Panderia, rather from the wandering isles. But even Chen Stormstout, who is from the Wandering Isles made a comment about me being weird looking. It really takes away from the story.
I feel that way when leveling a Zandalari in Zuldazar. I remember Yazma calling me a Zandalari like I was from a “lesser race”, like bruh!
I know this thread is 3 years old at this point but this is just as funny when you’re playing a Kul’Tiran and everyone is like “Mainlander, eh?”
