Doing all 4 covenants on a single character

Is there a cooldown on switching? Could you not just switch covenants as needed for whatever content you need? There’s always something to grind in this game so really getting max renown isn’t THAT bad, albeit boring but the campaign stories are cool. From what I was told yesterday previous progress with a covenant isn’t reset so it’s all waiting for you if you switch back

For example, if I were to be Venthyr for PvP and Night Fae for PvE.

theres a weekly cooldown on it. the first covenant swap to a covenant is free but the second one is time gated. you need to complete a quest to aid the covenant and then the following reset you can apply to rejoin

idk the exact timeframe but it’s along those lines

If you go back to an old covenant it takes 2 weeks before they accept you.

Wow… Okay then I really don’t understand blizzard in this one.

Why even give different talent trees then if every spec is going to have a right or wrong covenant

You could technically do covenant A, get all the rewards/cosmetics you want, then switch to covenant B and do the same, then covenant C and then D and get all the transmogs, mounts, pets etc that you want. I’d just plan to end on the covenant you actually want to be for the rest of shadowlands because going back to one you’ve done before takes 2 weeks.

Also, you can only mog the covenant stuff for the covenant you actually are. Like my Venthyr priest can’t wear this sweet butterfly backpack and I can’t wear the cool floating back knives.

I hope they unlock those restrictions after Shadowlands the same way they unlocked Legion legendary weapon appearances and stuff.

It’s always been this way, there is 99% of the time a correct choice to maximize your character… if you want to be together best dps for mythic plus there is a clear spec and talent choices for your class. Same thing with covenants.

Keep in mind it’s usually like a 1% difference or less, so unless you’re in a guild pushing for world first or pushing to get the first mythic 30 done then it isn’t really going to hurt you. Play what you feel fits your character more

Sometimes but not always.

IE: Just Theotar’s “token of appreciation” is a 7% increase in overall healing for Mystical (highest cr MW in 3v3 last I saw) in 2400 mmr RBGs. That’s crazy pants.

Yeah definitely some outliers, and in those cases I always hope they nerf/buff to even things out.

It’s just seeing people get bent out of shape when the difference doesn’t actually impact their goals is annoying after time

Exactly this. Chasing the flavor of the week/month/patch to me is wasting time. I’d rather level a new toon for a different covenant than put in the time switching.

Depends on the class/spec… there are a few where the distribution of choices is fairly even.

Others they haven’t done a good job with balance… like Druid night fey for example xD

This next coming patch they have attempted to balance the covenant more or each class. At first glance, it definitely seems like an improvement. Some class/specs better than others… for example, resto shaman is extremely even now, you can really choose any covenant.

I may be biased as well because my aesthetic choice for my Druid would have been nightfae no matter what… and I lucked out it’s basically best for every spec
