So for the new noblegarden quests you get a toy that changes you into a duck and pick 1 of 6 colors. Most people did it on 6 alts thinking hooray done but hold on… it isn’t account wide.
It was confirmed to not be a bug meaning they expect you to wait six years to get all of the colors? Despite the fact that they are changing transmog next expansion to let plate characters earn transmogs for your cloth characters… where is the disconnect here?

I did the same thing.
Not sure why this is not account wide as it makes the toy completely useless for alts that don’t do the quests.

Interns have a hard time programming, most likely some “whatever we don’t care enough” type of problem.

What’s really egregious is that the fact that you must collect at least 1 duckling body colour to use the toy makes it not actually account wide. Your characters who have not done this quest will not be able to transform at all, even though they technically have the toy.
So it’s a good thing you went and did it on 6 toons because at least you unlocked the toy for all 6 of them by providing each of them a duckling body colour to use.

True, I guess the rest of my alts or anyone I make at the start of War within will just be out of luck.

This is the main reason I feel the duck disguiser is a fiasco of terrible design. I actually think it’s fine to not have every duckling body colour. I’m going to be the only brown one. I like the brown one. Most people will be pink.
What I don’t like is them weaseling an account-wide toy into a non-account-wide-toy under the banner of it being some kind of six-year masterpiece achievement to collect all the colours.
Just make yellow free. Please.

Yes, basic yellow duck for your account if any of your toons do the quest line.
And for Blizz or anyone else I realize the quest line probably takes less than 5 minutes but that isn’t my point. If this is their design philosophy it doesn’t bode well for war bands at all.

playing for 6 years to collect something is what wow players do
This. They should have done it like Pepe, where a default option exists for those who didn’t collect them.
I won’t get all of the colors, since they aren’t account wide and I don’t feel like doing the same quest 50x per year for 6 years, but not having a default option absolutely makes the toy useless for my altaholic account.

How often are people really going to use a duck cosume though? One color is probably enough for as often as most people will use it. I get the complaint but I just don’t think it’s worth making a big fuss over. There are bigger battles to fight.
And the is the point in the show where people start assuming Warbands can do things that haven’t been confirmed without knowing exactly what they are because no one had messed them and get upset when their hyped head cannon expectations are no where near the reality.
It’s very strange and unexpected
I think that they just assumed that nobody would care about this. Because no normal person would.

Yes and no. During the Blizz on interview I think it was Ion, although I may be wrong, stated that rep and du from teleport would both be accountwide/warband, and toys are already account wide.
It is a very odd move, I would say a step backwards, to make a toy that you can use on alts but if they haven’t done the quests it doesn’t give any options. I think if it had a default color like yellow/brown that everyone could use it would be fine.

i don’t think they ever stated that their intent going forward was to make every single thing ever account wide.
It was not, and they mentioned limitations. But toys already are account wide. I could create a new character right now, open up my toy menu and make them another race or put them in a monkey ball or turn them into an enemy from Deadmines.
But I can’t make them a duck?

Have you ever met a WOW player? None of us are ‘normal’.
there are faction-limited toys and profession-limited toys. i don’t see that this is different. we can certainly disagree on this but i don’t see how it’s a given that this toy must be account-wide.

yeah i feel you, there’s still a threshold though.
there are also toys that people sell for 700usd from the trading card game which weirdly no collector really complains about.
