Does Your Personality Change When You Play?

You know how when some mild mannered person gets behind the wheel and starts driving down the interstate, they become a different person? It’s like the angel on their shoulder gets car sick and the devil takes over.

Do you change when you log in to play this game? Do you put on a persona of one of your characters, or do you go from from sweet and lovable spouse to a devil in a swivel chair? Maybe you are the other way around and are a jerk in real life, but become a teddy bear in the game.

Oh definitely.

There’s nothing wrong with “getting into character” while playing a “roleplay game”.

I get angry AF in battlegrounds. But I’m pretty chill in the real world.

Sometimes, yeah. Sometimes it’s almost Jungian when it comes to a character or role in a raid that I’m playing. I’ve had people tell me I seem way more outgoing when I’m online. I’ve had people assume I’m some old kindly grandma or something >_>

If I play a Warrior , DK , hunter , than I become more aggressive . If I play a shaman or a balance Druid , than I become a much nicer person .

Cromgaru always in character.

I am a TTRPG nerd at heart, and have been for over 40 years. When I do anything WoW related, what I do is very strongly influenced by the character I’m using to do it.

So yeah, when I’m playing Morty, here, I’m usually whistling a happy little ditty or humming a little toon, because Morty is generally a happy little (mecha)gnome. But when I’m playing my undead DK, I revel in slaying great masses of… well, anything, and when I’m playing my nelf DH, I’m very serious and focused.

Only if I’m playing an Undead Rogue. Then I’m totally ruthless and without any sense of fair play, no courtesy, nothing. I’m completely remorseless.

Both when driving and playing video games, while I don’t actively seek to mess with people, if I see someone mess up (i.e., get pulled over, or die in-game, especially while trying to mess with me), I will definitely experience a deeply satisfying wave of schadenfreude.

There’s a shred of that in me all the time I suppose, but it truly warms my heart to see internet bad@$$es die when trying to be a bad@$$ :man_shrugging:

Nope I’m mostly the same as I am anywhere else. A total monster, I need to be stopped. :face_with_monocle:

I prefer to be myself in game, so my Druid here has my same disposition. Other characters I don’t really see as different, however I do write fan fictions where they are wildly different from me. I don’t know, I prefer to just be myself whenever I can.

I’m the same idiot no matter what I’m doing.

I don’t think I change as much as different parts of my personality become more highlighted.

I don’t have to check myself in some ways so that part is allowed to inflate.

well i based my character here on my personality IRL.
so kinda, but if i am on my dk, ya i am different.

Yeah, any time I’m about to use my glide ability, i turn a fan on below me IRL and pretend it’s the air my DH is gliding through.

Nah, just kidding. If I act different on one character compared to another, I’ve never noticed.

Does Your Personality Change When You Play?

Absolutely.

While I am flailing around trying to locate caches and chests for the greater portion of an hour or more I get angrier and angrier at how obviously and transparently manipulative quests have become to blatantly aim to waste your time so that you will appear to be logged in for longer.

The thought of how clever they must feel to be running the players around for hours without ever having to create content for them, makes me ill.

The notion of pathfinder is exhausting and just thinking about it makes me want to log off.

So yeah, there is definitely something going on there.

When I play I get the chance to be the best version of myself. I wish I had the figure of this nelf, instead of the figure of a pandaren/ogre. (have we even seen girl ogres?)

I also don’t have the stress of real life, so I don’t hate everyone. I can be as kind and generous as I like, and my character is a paragon of virtue. never cruel, always kind and loving. I even avoid the sleeping mobs. I just target the ones that run at me.
