For me
Lunnaya (former name)- Lunnaya’s father named her that. Means glory to Elune. Named her before he died. Name was misleading though, as Lunnaya is now a death knight which is kinda a nono to Night elves society and Elune.
Eveara- Sister of Lunnaya was named by her mother. Their mother was a highborne who worshiped Azshara, even secretly when she came to Kalmidor until she died (burning of the world tree). So she gave her a name to reflect upon that. She gave her eve because she thought it was a beautiful name.
It has RP elements that also happens to be one of mine and my wifes favorite Genre
Out with the new, in with the old
As a child, Illidan used to dunk me into his green juices on a regular basis. I was supposedly the chosen one! The one that the Legion would fear!
Unfortunately, I absorbed too much fel, and in turn became a living embodiment of it. I have no power, no warglaives. Just lots of fiery, hot demon juice.

It was supposed to be funny. I had a cat who’d just had a litter of kittens and one (my favorite) was constantly chirping about something. I named him Mute because he wouldn’t ever shut up and then I was like “huh, a mage named Mute would be funny”.
It’s not apparently.

A nøkken is a shapeshifting spirit, so I thought it was fitting for a druid

I’ve taken the names Lúthien and Tinúviel, both of which are the same character from Tolkien’s legendarium, but they’re taken on Stormrage so when I transferred here I returned to my old name Dreta.
If any of you have read Tolkien’s Silmarillion, you know exactly who she is and why I adopted her name. If not, here’s a pretty song.

In game? No.
Out of game? Yes.
Alliance side my main is a human hunter named Knit with a wolf pet named Purl. Knitting is my favorite hobby.
Horde side my main is a HM Tauren named Annlee. Ann and Lee are mine and my sister’s middle names.

OOC significance is hard to pull off with a lot of races if you also want to be lore friendly, I think.
No RP meaning, but Rustyus is what my dad named his warrior in EverQuest. He had a character that was named using his kids nicknames.
So its got tons of personal/emotional meaning for me.

Being a bad rogue in life and subsequently dispatched unceremoniously by the town folk for his illegal actions, luck came in the form of being raised as a forsaken whilst still in the noose.
Once reborn in undeath, he left his living name behind and assumed a more melodramatic one as he was now able to hone his rogue abilities in virtual immortality.
Well, there once were many abilities and then the big bad Blizz Old Gods came and pruned most away. Fortunately, sap remained.

It’s one of the opening lines in the show The Magicians from season 1. I thought it was very fitting.
