Does WoWhead Cause Anyone Else's Internet Browser to Brick?

I have a good and powerful gaming PC. I live in a large city and have very good, reliable high speed internet. I have no issues running anything I want on it. But when I have multiple windows open and go onto WoWhead, If I am watching Twitch or doing anything, the browser just lags hard and locks up.

Anyone else have this issue with the site?

I do not but I use uBlock Origin. I only have mediocre 1 Gbps download.

I use Brave, no issues.

Mine doesn’t brick but the reason it screws with visitors are all of the scripts they’re running. Never go there without a script blocker.

i’ve heard about wowhead having a memory leak

This has been happening to me the past 2 days now. I’ve never had any issues before. It’s extremely frustrating. Mine will crash even if I only have 1 tab open for WoWhead.

YES! I use Chrome primarily, but it’s been locking up and eventually crashing so often that I switched to Edge, and still have the problem, though it doesn’t crash AS fast. Wtf is going on. None of my friends have this issue, but I can hardly look anything up without it bricking.

Mine was struggling with it last night. Seems like something is up.

Not just Wowhead, I have had that problem with Icy Veins the last couple days, totally rando.

Edge is based on Chrome so yeah both will have same problem. Get Firefox browser and Ublock Origin to make Wowhead a lot less hostile.

Been having this problem as well. It’s the only website I have a problem with.

I added wowhead.com to the script blocking on Edge and it appears to have fixed the problem.

Back in shadowlands I had issues with the game and firefox playing videos at the same time. Turning hardware acceleration off in the browsers settings resolved the issue for me.

I also block most of the third party Javascript which seems to be the more likely culprit in this case.

It is pretty much a necessity to use an adblock addon nowadays. I can respect that sites like WoWhead pay their bills by displaying ads, but the shear number of ads they put up is ridiculous, not to mention how often their ad feeds display malicious ads.

If they limited their ads to two or three small, well moderated ads per page, then there wouldn’t be a need… but when you have 15 ads on one page (just checked WoWhead, and that is how many uBlock blocked on a fresh load)… yeah.

Not just the adds but all the data collection.

Currently blocking scripts from 13 different third party sites on WoWHead. And generally when you allow them they then go out to an army of other sites.

YES! YES! YES! Both mine and my partners do this. We also have high end machines and a very reliable fast connection. I think it’s started with the weird drop down adds they’ve started running.

i mean one time i went and looked up the company that owns them and surprise surprise…there was very little info on them…yeah not surprised they allow anyone with a pulse to put ads on their when their parent company seems to want to hide their everything outside their address. seems quite suspicious.
(this was like 5+years ago so.)

Get adblock. They have predatory ads and background you into streams simialr to Fextra. They won’t do anything about it. I don’t know if Blizzard have any kind of partnership with them but if so, it needs to end immediately. Not to mention every ounce of content they have they steal. They also mislead; a lot of the “professionals” who write guides purposefully mislead in them from purposefully bad talent trees to just general bad advice.

They are owned by Tencent, a Chinese company that owns a bunch of gaming companies like Riot (LoL).

It’s their parasitic resource-hogging ads. When I got 25,000 rep and got free premium, the issue disappeared forever.

Had my spouse look at my compy thousands of times. They’d find some little bug hogging all the resources. I knew it was from Wowhead. Turned out it was the ads.
