What I mean is that typically for a game that employs rng elements there’s typically a non-linear distribution of probabilities for a number of trials typically ending in a guaranteed drop. This system is known as a pity system. I cannot seem to find if the wow loot system employs a system like this for mythic plus and other high end content. To further the question if they do not employ this system currently do you think adding a system similar to this could help alleviate some of the burnout while still keeping loot meaningful?
Nope , you get your RNG system and that’s allyou get
" Aren’t you grateful"
Which is weird because every other blizzard game heavily abuses pity systems to keep you playing
There have been badge systems in the past, where you get badges for the dungeon, and can accumulate and use those to buy gear upgrades. Players complained when that came out in Wrath, of course, because they felt like it was too easy to get gear upgrades.
Other ideas have been things like the Benthic Tokens, which are quick catch-ups for alts so it doesn’t take the same amount of time to gear alts as your main. Again, people complained in BfA that loot was raining from the sky so who knows if anything like that will happen again.
Short answer is yes, it’s been done. But every time people complain, so we’ll see if Blizzard tries something else (and if people complain about that too, lol).
They should implement a pity party system for all the whiny children on this forum.
Yes it’s called PvP.
There is a pseudo-version of this system in place. It’s called the vault.
Upon completing content, even if you didn’t get loot for the content, you still get rewarded at the end of the week with appropriate ilvl.
They had “bad luck protection” for legiondaries and maybe one or two other things. I think it worked ok, but it was never terribly popular. It still feels miserable most of the time and it’s probably a lot harder to code than a uniform or weighted probability distribution.
The vault is the pseudo version of this, although I sometimes feel like a stronger version should be implemented. Given a strong case and point exists for my guildie, in which its been 3 weeks now and they barely have anything to show for the efforts they put into the game. Due to bad RNG and zero systems in place to help with instances of a streak of bad luck with RNG.
