I remember many years ago people getting false positives on botting or cheating because they was using a VPN and connected to a same IP that someone botting or cheating was using, is this still the case or has Blizzards cheat detection improved to know the difference? The reason I ask my VPN plan is almost up and I’m thinking about switching providers, right now I have a dedicated IP so I’m the only one connected to it, I no longer need a dedicated IP so will not be paying for one I’ll just use a normal IP, split tunneling is not an option with this provider.
The chances of that happening are next to 0 tbh. You should be fine.
While VPN connections are not supported, they’re not forbidden either. You might have to reset your password because of the location change, but if you have a authentiator it will reduce the risk of that happening. I just would stick to one type.
Thank you, I have an authenticator and sms enabled. Usually when you connect to a vpn server you stay on that one ip unless you change it or there is an issue, some services give you a new ip everytime you disconnect or restart your pc. The one I have now if I’m not using my dedicated or static ip and using a browser addon instead of the windows application it gives me a new ip every new tab which is pretty secure buy also very annoying if I’m new tabbing in the same site it will log me out all the time.
If it was that easy then wouldn’t movie studios and record labels just track people torrenting with a VPN down instead of sending DMCA violation notices to nobody? I know they request the users info from their ISP and the ISP emails the offender of the claim against them (I got two both times not on a VPN). Even so if an unskilled programmer could do this I would assume that even the minor offense of torrenting wouldn’t be safe with a VPN because multi billion dollar studios would have the resources to have someone on payroll to trace who is upload/downloading their property .
Tracking a persons IP isnt enough, they need a name hence the need to work with an ISP.
If this person can figure out who attacked them a few hours after it happened while the attacker was using a VPN without help from the ISP it should be no problem for others, especially multi-billion companies potentially losing millions of dollars. I mean Holytemplar from the Warcraft general forums got this figured out but Disney doesn’t?
So they a hollywood studio submits a list of IP address’s to the court and guess what. Courts are throwing those out these days. Need a persons name if you want to serve a summons or what ever.
Heck, WoD was so bad for players that a lot of us HAD to use VPNs to even play WoW back then because Frontier had just taken over Verizon and the transition was honestly one of the worst I have ever seen done. I haven’t used one for years now, but it was listed at one point as a solution by Blizzard until Frontier got their act together.
Frontier is, and always has been, a terrible company. When we were in college, my brother called them to try to get our parents’ DSL upgraded (with my parents’ blessing obviously) and discovered that their plan was both so bad it wasn’t even offered anymore and more expensive than the best plan available then.
