Does Upgrading the PvP Gear with Valorstones Matter?

I just recently returned to play WoW after 8 years.

My warlock currently has the full honor gear upgraded with Valorstones to roughly 4/8 (blue+ tier).

However, the description seems to say that it auto-increases its item level to 626 in PvP.

To my understanding, I heard many years ago that PvP gear got revamped - the best gear makes only like a 10 to 15% difference versus green honor gear.

I’m not sure if it’s true - but I’m curious to know: is using Valorstones to upgrade my gear making any difference in PvP at all? Will it just upgrade the gear’s item level for non-PvP, but in PvP, the honor gear remains at lvl 626 regardless of how upgraded it is?

I’m just asking in case I spend Valorstones for no reason.

Thanks!

It won’t make any difference in PvP whatsoever.

The ONLY reason to upgrade that gear is if you also want to use it for PvE. That is the only thing upgrading affects.

To “upgrade” PvP gear, you earn conquest so you can buy that set of gear. The conquest gear also cannot be upgraded for PvP purposes, only PvE.
