Does this games combat have any depth on a fundemental level?

hi. im new to this game and for some reason everytime i ask questions outside org, literally no one responds to me, even simple questions. so im here instead yippie

in the games most basic form of pvp, being 1v1s, is there any actual depth to the game there, is the skill ceiling low or high, and how much does skill actually matter? is there anything to really learn and grow with, or is all of this games depth just in how you interact with your teammates?

well thought out and good responses will net you videos of cute birds, so answer wisely

There used to be.

Now it’s just an ARPG style button mash game.

Roll a mongo melee and smash buttons is the way to succeed in this game now.

There was a time in game, when no one that backpedaled would have won a PvP match against someone who did not even have a backwards walk key bound. This was a thing.

Nowadays, you see people just backpedaling and looking like pros, telling people who can actually play to learn how to PvP.

This is one of the reasons why WoW-PvP is alienating its player base. This has been going on for years now.

This started with people asking for Blizzard to dumb the game down. Now it is mongoloid level retarded.

It matters a lot, but for people who have played the game a long time the skill floor is pretty low for most specs and there isn’t much that separates them in a 1v1. WoW pvp is more about knowledge and favorable class matchups than anything else.

New or inexperienced players will struggle.

i played classic and it was still insanely simplistic, not much seems to have changed on the skill floor aspect, and you talk suspiciously like someone who makes assumptions about why you dont like the game anymore but dont actually know why. no bird vid for you

at Vanazar, yeah i was kinda suspecting that the whole game revolves around class matchups, dont think its really the game for me if fighting classes you have an advantage over is 70% of the fight. birds for u

When TBC hit I was level 58 on my first char. So, I saw the first arena season ever and the game was not simplistic as you say.

You could easily outplay someone who was just smashing buttons.

You didn’t have infinite mana, infinite mobility, infinite uptime on DMG. There was way less CC, but it was way more meaningful, you had a lot of stats.

You had abilities that mattered, warrior had to equip a shield to spell reflect for instance, skill was rewarded, bads had no chance.

Edit: That’s what kept me coming back for years to come, till this day. Nothing was like WoW PvP. But this is the third time I quit due to bad game design and disrespect to skilled PvPers, who treated like second class citizens by Blizzard. PvPers live off a mini-game? A subpar mode that doesn’t deserve to be in a good state?

I am in the process of accepting that WoWs PvP will never be good again. Also, I have no time to hand around classic, TBC or Wrath.

1v1 has a lot of depth.
But some classes are just a lot stronger in 1v1 than others. The game is intended to be balanced around teams (though it never really achieves great balance because you can’t realistically balance a game that is undergoing constant changes). Some matchups you just have to be realistic about who is favored and try to overcome it or at least just do what you can. Even if you don’t win the duel, getting someone to lower HP or forcing more cooldowns out of them is still progressing in a way that will help you in future fights.

Get on Classic. Easy solution. It’s the “new underground” where you’re not likely to get reported and enjoy a more traditional MMO social atmosphere. Sadly that means you can only play WoW up to Wrath of the Lich King, but socially you should avoid Retail. It saddens me to say that Retail is East Germanized, or “DDR’ed” if you’re into the whole brevity thing.

Class>spec>comp>gear>skill. Write that down on a physical or digital sticky note. Those are the weights that determine who wins.

Skill is the smallest weight. It matters, but it matters LAST. As far as interacting with teammates, this is where “comp” comes in. Comp is in the middle. If the right classes and specs are not in play, it’s a lot harder to win in a group. And then it goes on to gearing and skill.

1v1 is the hardest PvP there is, mainly because the bigger the team, the easier it is on the individual. The more static parameters, the easier. Epic BG<BG<Arena 3’s<Arena 2’s<Arena Solo Shuffle<WPvP Raid<WPvP Group<WPvP Solo.

In other terms, BG is the easiest, WPvP is the hardest, and Arena is medium. All forms of WPvP stress staying alive the best you can in unknown and changing variables, whereas BGs are cookie-cutter strategies and Arena is countering comps.

In a way, skill does matter, but your skill cannot defeat a computer. You can’t outplay a class better than yours, a spec better than yours, a comp(if applicable) better than yours), and even it can’t out-math superior gear. Playing the meta class/spec, having meta class/specs assisting, and simply being 10, 15, 20 ilvls higher will more than compensate for lack of skill. In order for an inferior class/spec and inferior geared player to beat you, his/her skill has to greatly outweigh yours(and the odds of that are Slim to none, and Slim is missing presumed dead now).

Classic wotlk is far better for pvp and combat than retail.

They turned Retail combat into a moba combat style game, and pvp is awful spot for 10+ years.

Older versions of wow were more fun to play, had to actually think when playing.

Which is the most pointless thing because Blizz already has Heroes of the Storm. That’s the official Blizzard MOBA.

I liken it more to Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
