As someone who pugs a lot, no raids I join ever seem to have young people. Typically it’s 30+ year olds. (I myself am almost 40).
Are MMO games just not appealing at all to younger generations? Are younger generations just not into games like WoW? I can understand why subs keep falling if they can’t draw in newer and younger players. I know my son is 18 and never played. He plays games but he tends to play the Nintendo Switch vs his PS5 and doesn’t even have a PC.
I think the only hope at this point is of WoW ended up on console if you want younger players.
A lot of them might be playing classic ironically. When you say young I think Gen Z and such, and a lot of this generation are more into the online culture of streaming and and trends in gaming.
And right now Classic is a big trend. These young people see their favorite streamers playing a game, they’re gonna play it too.
It may seem silly to an older person that streamers have so much influence in the gaming space, but it is there and it’s hard to laugh off or ignore anymore.
Considering most of the teen gamers love being toxic in FPS (Valorant/OW2/CoD), I don’t think they are able to handle games that require a lot of time and grind in. They want something quick, fast, and can just pick up and play for 10mins-2hrs. MMOs require a lot of time and patience. I personally just don’t think they have the patience. Obviously not saying all teens are in this category, but will to bet that is why.
