Does the Shadowlands Expansion Seem... Lacking?

I purchased it day 1, because I wanted the mount and the Transmog. Also because Shadowlands was shiny and to be honest BFA has been such a disappointment.

Taking a few steps back however, it really seems that the expansion is really lacking a distinctive hook.

There is not an a new class, no new races, no exciting features. I mean, the biggest point seemed to be that they would unprune the stuff they took away in BFA!

Sure the revamped leveling system seems very cool (and after like 15 years, massively overdue) and the factions are reminiscent of the order halls… but is that really it?

What are we really getting that makes this expansion more than just a glorious content update patch?

No one will have an answer for you yet.

I’m excited for the new zones and Torghast so far. I haven’t preordered yet as I’m waiting for the CE. But no one has any idea outside of more customization, some depruning, and what we saw at BlizzCon.

We’ll have to wait for more information.

I guess my concern would be, wouldn’t the biggest features be announced on the biggest platform they have, like Blizzcon?

Seems like anything else they will announce will be smaller in scale than what they have already shown us.

I can’t be too concerned. BlizzCon before WoD was announced promised so many things and didn’t even give us half of what was promised. I imagine they’re not super interested in over-promising after that.

Is the lore good? Is the game fun to play? Those are the only questions I need answers to, and they won’t be answered before Shadowlands comes out on the beta.

I don’t need a flashy thing to get me interested in Shadowlands. Give me cool lore and fun gameplay, and I’m sold.

Covenants and Torghast at first glance seem like cool ideas. They did say there was a world quest revamp in the works too. I’m pretty disappointed with no new class. We really need a new ranged caster or archer type class.

Why are you pre-ordering digital product anyway? They already got your money then why should they care?

Why do people have this idea that if there is no new class it is just a content patch?

The expansion is new zones, new stories, new quest lines, covenants, a new end game experience, new reps, new mounts, new pets, a new levelling system, new dungeons, new raids.
And 2 years of updates to all of this.

Eh the expansion is still just under a year away. I would say there is alot of stuff they havn’t shown us yet. On the topic of classes, I don’t really think we need anymore classes to be honest. Ever since they went into spec identity it’s almost like each class became 3 seperate classes anyways, so it’s almost like we have 35 different classes anyways.

The no new races I will get on board with; The only new ones we’ve had are Kul’tiran and Zandalari trolls ever since MOP, so that’s 3 new races in…7 years?

The un-pruning they are doing is going back farther than Legion I think.

Not really a whole lot to be ‘excited’ about. It seems safe. Which, frankly, I might enjoy a slice of. I’m not going to be incredibly hyped about it, but if its at least average, I’d consider it a step up.

Depressing, huh?

Gaming is my hobby, and Blizzard is my favorite gaming company. With the exception of BFA (which i actually loved at launch), buying the digital product was a no brainer.

Except now I wonder what exactly am I getting?

If the selling point is “We are going to focus on fixing all of the existing stuff instead of throwing more new unbalanced stuff at you.” then consider me on board.

Also, we know very very little about what the expansion is really going to include.

Ok then why are you complaining? Only preorder if you think the product is already good enough, this is common sense.

If you think its mediocre, you pretty much advocate for mediocrity by preordering it.

You won’t find out what makes this expansion worth it for a while. We haven’t even seen all the zones yet.

An attempt at fixing stuff will be made, but it won’t be successful. It never is.

So then everything will still be just as broken as it’s always been and we’ll have nothing new to make up for it…

I think it looks like a filler expansion like wod. But it could be good if they deliver on content and game play. The lore seems like it’s all over the place now and I don’t read the books so In game lore has been swiss cheese for awhile.

It’s kind of like getting a tax refund, isn’t it? I mean you’re all excited. . . till you realize it was your money in the first place.

The lore has crawled up its own bum at this point. I share your beliefs that SL will take away more than it gives. No new class builds; no new abilities or talents… sounds really awesome. And WQ 2.0 is sure to inspire everyone – instead of repeating leveling quests from BfA you can repeat the ones from SL.

Mission tables? Will they be back? I wish Mission tables actually launched an adventure for you and your selected followers to do. But I doubt that will ever happen and it will return as the usual timer only.

Don’t be surprised if the level squish deprives many of your toons of the flight ability even if they presently have it.

Like you I purchased it, for the swag. However it is worse than lack luster.

It seems down right insulting. Making the leveling go faster, fine, but leave the level numbers. I earned every level I have.

But than Ion hates the RPG genre, and is doing his dammest to kill the RPG in WOW. He’s only in it for his Icy-Viens Theorycrafting Mid/Max Raiding playstyle.

Look at PVP, it’s basically dead.

Basically. With an attempt at another insulting story-line.

All of Wow is getting boring and the same old thing…I am not going to buy it or even play 8.3 I quit
