How are Hunter tier sets consistently so bad? There is so much fantasy they could lean on to make cool sets for the only “archer” class in the game. But instead each tier is straight garbage to the point that I feel like the art team is in on the meme.
What does that make it? The third Dark Ranger themed set in 2 years? It would appear that the only thing they can come up with for Hunter these days is Dark Ranger or random junk glued to metal.
It looks like quest gear. Nothing about it looks well thought out.
Ranger? I mean i guess. Looks like some armor for a guard that stands on a wall and shoots arrows, but also emo. That’s mail armor? Mail armor sucks so bad for mogs. Spikes, seriously? Nothing about this seems ranger anything to me. It’s just a turret. You aint hunting anything with a bow in that outfit. They cant even make good guns. Forget about crossbows.
Hood gets in the way of the eyes, the things you need to use to see what you’re aiming at.
The bulky gauntlets and pauldrons would prevent full range of motion for the act of drawing a bow, while riflemen and crossbowmen wouldn’t care most hunters mog bows because they want to be rangers rather than riflemen or crossbowmen.
Aesthetically looks like dk or dh tier, not hunter tier (I actually went to the wowhead post to look at the armor so I could give my critiques on it and initially scrolled past the set because of how much it doesn’t look like a hunter set).
Hunters consistently struggle with tier sets because blizzard consistently refuses to deliver on the “ranger” archetype that draws people to the class, instead getting armors designed on animal motifs or recycled reject plate armor. The only time blizzard really went in on the ranger sensibilities for a hunter tier set was Nighthold and you know what happened? It turned out to be a good set, slim and fitting for a ranger. Moving into non-tier have a look at the dark ranger set from Shadowlands too, there’s not even gloves at all there. It’s the complete opposite of the bulky impractical slop hunters keep getting delivered.
And honestly if they’re gonna go for the whole: “our mail is made of stuff we killed and added” angle, the Hunter armor dev should pull aside the Druid one for some pointers, cause every time I see a Druid set I think: “Now THAT’s something I’d wear as a Hunter.” (Mostly hands, head, and shoulder/waist and sometimes boots. y’know what? Sometimes pants too when it’s not a robe.)
OP has a point, Hunter sets are typically trash with very few exceptions… the offset is there are some very cool mail pieces to build some awesome transmogs… but the Tier ‘sets’ are bad… like TWW Season 1 tier set…
Honestly the majority of tier sets have been pretty bad overtime. Evokers ironically probably have the highest % of good sets. Every other class has at most a couple good looking sets that everyone collects and uses. Probably 85-90% of them you never see anyone using.
