I’m fairly new to dungeons and cast Tar Trap to help the tank. The way they frequently run out of the trap area makes me question if it really works or not. I don’t know how to judge what the tank sees/experiences, so I don’t know if it’s a help, or is just slowing me down getting off an actual damage shot.
It probably is working, but it affects a pretty small area on the ground. If you’re running lower level dungeons and your group is just overpowering everything, I would just focus on damaging. If the content is more difficult and there is a need to kite mobs (for the sake of the tanks life), then it becomes more useful.
If the mob is affected by the tar trap there will be a little tar trap icon under the name plate when it’s running through it. Some mobs can’t be snared, but most can.
Well, what do you mean by help the tank? Slowing down mobs isn’t useful in most situations. The tank probably doesn’t care or even realize that tar trap is down. I would recommend just dpsing.
Running away to drop Necrotic stacks is probably the only scenario where it’s truly helpful, but even then Tar Trap is a bit lackluster for that effect; Binding Shot works much better. And some tanks like Demon Hunters, Monks and Warriors have so much mobility they can outrun enemies without any help.
