Does Server population matter?

Just curious.

Maybe? What are your goals in game?

Myself, I like to do group activities so a healthy population to me matters.

Pretty much the same, Like seeing other folks in the overworld. Doing the occasional WG

As a solo player, I like small server sizes. Matter of fact, I just deleted Selosse from Sisters of Elune - only level 12 - since this server has a better name for a warlock. Point being there are many reasons for wanting a certain server size. I like the privacy.

Only matters if you want to mythic raid.

As a solo casual I prefer smaller server size, and it doesn’t seem to pose any problem. Enough players still gather for taking down a world boss. In the interim, seeing another player or two now and then – or being entirely alone – works out just fine for me, depending on what I’m doing.

Eg, the beginning of an expac/patch aside, I’m glad to say I can’t remember the last time I had to wait out a wolf pack of players descending on a quest area, rabidly gobbling up all the mobs or resources, forcing me to wait til they left and stuff respawned

it might as too many people means more chances of lag but lots of people means lots of people to group with and run content…so…maybe? I mean servers are kinda linked atm and it gets annoying when people use group finder to drag folk from servers with bad connection to ours and lag us in the process

Since world events are community events these days, it can matter. Have to have enough people to take down a rare or finish a time rift for it to be fun.

Don’t join a small server dude always go large

Large servers tend to be easier to find Mythic Raid teams for and generally have a more active economy, so if you need to find a crafter or buy materials on the auction house, it’s generally less expensive than on a smaller server.

Larger servers can have more video lag/overload especially in the hub city of the current expansion.

Finding groups in LFD/LFR/LFG is independent of server size as you can find people from all realms within the region applying to queued and pre-made listings.

Smaller servers are more likely to be “joined” to other servers in some attempt to make them feel alive. Mostly they’re going to feel dead, especially in the outdoor world content (barring world bosses that are typically queued for and time rifts which bring people to the same spot on a timer without a queue).

I’m sure there are other distinctions between large and small, but I can’t think of any more that are very important.

You’re more likely to find stuff in the open world like ores, herbs and rares on low pop realms.
Not to mention you can get epic names like mine. AH is all connected now, isn’t it?
Groupfinder is global, so that doesnt matter?

Moon Guard is kooky, but it has a lot of people.

No considering everything can be queued up with people across a bunch of servers with group finder.

i like being on a larger server for AH and crafting purposes. i don’t raid mythic so otherwise, no, it doesn’t make a difference.

For “commodities”, which definitely covers crafting materials and consumables (food, pots, phials, runes, etc.). I’m pretty sure blue crafted gear and green BoE transmogs (as well as purple BoEs from raid) and other “non-commodities” are still server-specific.

I’d like to see a region-wide AH for everything that can be listed on the AH, but maybe there’s technical roadblocks to that or Blizz could but won’t “for reasons.”

Is crafting still server specific? If so, then go to a larger server so you can find people to craft items for a reasonable price if you plan on having anything crafted with sparks

If you want to mythic raid then yes, if not no.

Depends if you are a hardcore mythic raider, if not not really

Even if you’re a casual mythic raider it still matters.

I’d say mythic raiding and crafting.
