Does Seal of Righteousness Holy Damage trigger weapon procs?

Been searching around to find a definitive answer to this but have come up short. If it does in fact behave like this, which I believe is true to original Vanilla, then it would be interesting to try PVEing as one with a SotC/SoR twisting rotation.

I dont think it does, it feels like a DoT spell, doenst crit, can’t be resisted… SoC does proc crusader and use to proc wound when my sword had it.

I think that it’s supposed to, given that the patch notes for 2.1 (BC) were as follows:

Patch_2.1.0) (2007-05-22):** This seal will no longer cause additional chances for weapon procs to trigger.

Next Mc raid I’ll do trash with sor and see if I get double crusader procs (I get those often with seal of command) and check.

That’d be awesome. Thank you!

Righteousness is not supposed to. If it is, it’s a bug. But I’m pretty sure it doesn’t in classic. Seal of Command on the other hand does seem to proc things on my Paladin.

I’m pretty sure that’s how it functioned in vanilla though, bug or not. I also see it proc in my combat log after the holy damage hits. They patched it out in TBC per the patch notes.

I have had my Earthshaker double proc off a single auto attack while SoR was active.

Seal of Righteousness can be resisted, parried, blocked, and dodged. I believe it follows that it can trigger weapon procs.

Yes it can, but only innate weapon procs.

I think this evidence makes ret paladins an even greater candidate to wield Nightfall. With a SotC/SoR twisting rotation, not only will the paladin strike 40% faster with the weapon, they will also get double the chance to trigger the weapon proc with the holy damage component of SoR. Judgement also adds one more chance every 8 seconds.

it does. and pally was alwaysthe best for nightfall. esp now, cuse hunters wingclip dosent proc it anymore. it can only proc on a gdc i think now, or something weird. but its not procing on wingclip.

100% it does. Go look at the discussions pertaining to the nightfall axe procs for more info.

Also I’ve seen alot of people saying many weapon procs require the gcd to be available to go off. Which if true means you may want to avoid seal twisting in order to keep the gcd free for procs. I get decent uptime just swinging away with SoR.

I’ve also noticed that the drake talon cleaver and dark moon card proc is MUCH higher when the gcd is left available. Although this seems contrary to what the spreadsheet goblins preach.

Ret paladin abilities that proc things:

Weapon Only (weapon proc, enchants, oils)
Seal of Righteousness hits
Physical damage procs (like jekliks crushing blow)

All “on hit” procs
White attacks
Seal of Command hits
Judgment of Command

So yes, seal of righteousness does trigger weapon procs.

While rets are a decent nightfall user, I would not recommend attempting to seal twist with the weapon.

Nightfall is definitely one of the weapons that can not proc during the global cooldown, so seal twisting to attempt to gain more procs will actually end up blocking almost half of them.

If a paladin is using nightfall (either seal will give around the same uptime, knowing what we do about the GCD), a ret should refrain from using abilities save for the small window of time between 1.0s after the swing timer starts (this is when the seal hits) and 1.5s before the swing ends (this is to prevent the GCD from blocking your next autoattack’s chance to proc). For an unhasted nightfall, that is a 1.0s window per swing to judge, consecrate, or cleanse.

I’d recommend SoC for nightfall use. Even though SoC hits less often than SoR, the judgment of command can proc it as well (judgment of righteousness can not), which makes up for almost all of the difference in chances to proc per minute, while doing significantly more dps than SoR.

If you think we are wrong, go swing at a servant of grol for 10 minutes while keeping the GCDs free and log it.

Then do it again with the GCDs used before every swing hit (sense undead is great here). If it is impacted you’ll see zero procs. (Which makes this test the better one to start with)

Wing clip does proc nightfall. The problem is that the GCD triggered by the wing clip will prevent an autoattack during that time from triggering the nightfall. A hunter using nightfall needs to make sure that any wing clips used do not cause their GCD to overlap with their white swings or other hits that can trigger the weapon. (this is true for all classes)
