Does Prot Paladin (Tank) take more damage in PVP

I’m running a prot paladin this expansion and would like to do pvp/warmode for some extra stuff but was curious to see if tanks take more damage in PVP situations?

Does it only apply to non-npc players or do you also take more damage from mobs?

Yes, I’m pretty sure tank specs continue to take extra damage from enemy players compared to NPCs. I did a couple BGs yesterday and I was getting my face melted by almost every DPS class, but especially Feral.

This is correct in BFA they increased Tank damage taken from 40% to 50% from all PvP sources. So if you are a Tank it’s like you always have 5 stacks of an FC.

This is why I had to dump my old Prot War main and Re-roll to the superior tank spec that can actually counter the overtuned 50% dmg increase in BFA.

Honestly it needs to be reworked because this flat dmg increase just makes some Tanks completely unviable if they don’t have Flat dmg reduction or can block magic.

Well that explains why I was getting almost one shot by ret pallies when I went tank because I thought it would be fun to do flag carrier stuff. Havent played since legion.

So why did they nerf tanks so much? What could the point be. We do less damage(speaking for demon hunters, it seems like prot damage and ret damage is comparable just less burst) but most tanks do way less damage, so why nerf their survivability?

Is the answer that blizzard can’t balance anything and resorted to a nuclear option of just taking away the bad thing instead of trying to fix it, if so, why not just let you not queue up as a tank spec for pvp content?

I came back for WoD and even then Tanks took 25% increased dmg in PvP but was only instanced PvP. However there were great ways to nullify that through talents.

I took off Legion due too Templates so I assume somewhere in there it was increased to 30-40%.

Then in BFA the 40% went to 50%.

This is a vague outline of increased damage to Tanks in PvP.

People cry in the Arena forums about Tanks and think they shouldn’t be allowed to Que for Arena or PvP. There were Rank 1 Prot Pals last season even with the increase damage changes. Since Prot just has a great tool kit.

Well if I can’t Que Tank in PvP I have no reason to play this game anymore. With that said their balance teams feel flat % nerfs fix situations and they don’t. As I said some Tanks can handle the increase damage and some can’t and now are unplayable.

With Prot war having no D stance anymore or mitigation I had to reroll Prot Pal since they have several flat % mitigation and strong heals to counter the Tank nerf.

tanks can do a lot of dps at the moment. If they didn’t take the extra damage they’d essentially be unstoppable dps machines. Probably wouldn’t be too much fun and would encourage nothing but tanks to queue up

Tanks are ranked by either how much damage they do or how much healing or a combo of both. If we are self healing we are using holy power to heal and doing less damage with SoR and visa versa if we are using SoR we are doing less healing and more damage.

I think why most people hate tank classes is that they do not know HOW to kill them, and probably have never played them, least not in PvP.

Today for example I got a wsp from a duelest S.P. of how i !@@#$ for playing the spec. Mind you he lost. Skirm went on for several, several minutes.

The fact is I remember going vs a Rank 1 Shadow Priest that killed me in under 1 minute in a duel. The second duel I lasted 3 minutes. The third duel lasted 7 minutes, and the fourth lasted over 10 minutes.

The rank 1 S.P. I was dueling (no clue the name sorry) has gone vs my spec many times and had a series of openers and follow ups that he or she used whenever going vs Prot Pally.

Since I had never gone vs someone of that caliber as SP, I hadn’t seen that sequence specifically. So 1st time round i got clobbered. But each time after that I learned the spell casting sequences and adapted. I have no clue if I would have ever beaten that SP, probably not with the difference in ilvl of our gear, i mean the persons a rank 1, and highest i ever got was 2190 and duelest

BUt my point is that the more times I went vs this particular SP the better I got . When these rather toxic players that hate tanks in pvp learn our weaknesses, and what to do and when, I think they would be less ticked off that this spec is in the game.

I know on my Demo lock, I beat Prot Pallys often. I know to use my minion on him when he uses Blessing of spellwarding for a stun (bypasses BoS shield) or on his Guardian of Forgotten Angel (which fear and mortal coil would work possibly even Call Fellord pvp talent

The way I see it, I am taking more damage, I am doing less damage so it evens out.
at the end of a skirm for example, my damage is going to be possibly around their healing amount, and my healing will be their damage given just pointing out it all balances in the end
