To me it doesn’t. Oracle is about divining or premonitions which feel more like Astrologian from FFXIV than Disc priests. I’ve always thought of something like a battle priest for Disc, essentially a ret pally but as a caster. Grand Lector Enaara comes to mind as she wanted to fight more than heal and I’m pretty sure ultimate penitence was based on her Lector’s Fury. Instead of Oracle I would rather them focus on the offensive side of Holy magic
Voidweaver already exists as the offensive option for Discipline.
I think that thematically the concept of an “Oracle” does in fact fit super well to what Disc playstile is, specially in Raids where you literally anticipate and prepare for the damage a few seconds before it happens.
In fact it might fit better than “Discipline”…
That said, implementaiton-wise the Oracle tree does not deliver on that fantasy since you are just rotating a buff and not “predicting the future” and choosig which bonus you want.
I will say that, of the two healing specs, Oracle is closer to what I think of when I think of Disc’s playstyle. As in, it’s one more spell on a post-it note of ramp spell timing.
But, for class fantasy? Grand Lector Enaara is absolutely Disc incarnate. She’s the best and much more aspirational than someone like Velen. When I think of heroic priest characters, it’s ones like her or Anduin in the BfA cinematic for Holy that I think most people would want as a ‘heroic’ fantasy.
Velen is… sure a priest. But, he’s not the kind of priest I want to play as.
Thats Void though. I’m talking about offensive Holy magic
Yes, but the natural consequence of your suggestion is to leave a healing spec without a healing hero spec. Discipline is more than Atonement and every option can’t double and triple down on the damage-to-heal play style.
The word oracle fits, the interpretation of oracle we got as a hero tree does not.
Let’s face it, neither Archon or Oracle is really selling any kind of class fantasy. Shadowlands did a better job with its borrowed power systems which at least initially felt gameplay changing - and would’ve been loved a lot more if they weren’t tied to so many ridiculous chores…
Ya i still miss door of shadows on disc. It felt like the missing piece to my pvp kit ;(
I like Oracle…except for cycling through Premonition buffs, which is a pretty big part of it
I wish they would just make Premonition into a choice node where you can choose which of the three abilities you could activate each time Premonition was off CD instead of cycling through three different buffs. That way you could choose the best buff for the encounter.
Of course, it would probably be better to replace Premonition altogether, but it looks like we’re too late for that, and this looks like the next best possible option.
I honestly think Oracle would be a better spec if there was only one of the three buffs, and some of the passives in the tree played off of it.
Insight is the most obvious choice for theming since it’s the only one of the 3 right now that fits what you’d think of with “oracle”. But I’m sure some people wouldn’t like that because it’s not the easiest of the 3 to use, nor is it the most powerful.
But really, it would play so much smoother and more predictable.
If Premonition only had Insight it would be really simple and intuitive to use though.
Holy and Disc would just press PoM and Penance 4 times respectively.
It would lowkey be nuts for Holy specifically because it basically guarantees Answered Prayers once every minute just with Premonition.
Disc would be in love- Radiance, Penance, Mind Blast, and PW: Shield would all find uses for Insight. It’s very versatile.
Haha, yeah the passive buffs are enticing… but the core mechanic is a dumpster fire. Unsalvagably bad, which they know, hence they keep buffing everything to make the buffs “good enough to make up for the dumpster fire.”
The core mechanic of course seems heavily borrowed from the Shadowlands Fae Guardians, but it was infinitely better in SL because all 3 buffs were simultaneous and at the full control of the player, neither of which is true for Oracle.
I think Oracle is what i would love the move about disc as i love power word: shield and prayer of mending. Also having more shields on demand with rapture and premonitions. I feel like a shield class. im so excited for these changes
It 100% does for me.
I did shadowless bubble disc priest at the end of season 1 with the tier set and it was amazing. I had so much fun especially in nokud. The dreaded fortified nokud lightning trash mobs were a piece of cake since I could pre bubble people being double casted on and giving them their whole health bar in Shields.
And could double dip on dmg/healing amp of the lightning orb buffs for giga reflect damage on the boss.
War within tier set buffs shield again, and they just keep buffing pws even more with Oracle. When I tried it on beta before they just buffed it again I was already getting like 115% of my max health in pws with everything stacked. And still could get 1.6mil bubble crits without procs/rapture.
It fits Oracle perfectly for predicting dmg and the way the decaying bubble talent works. Too bad it requires a complex weak aura though. Also the bubble decay should be reduced to like 2%. Because it breaks even after like 4 seconds.
I would say yes since I love shielding and prayer of mending. Also power word: life is going to let me save flash of light charges.
