Does Monk feel good to main?

Hey everyone i’m having a tough time deciding on a main.

Last season I played Ele Shaman and had fun but now have realised I want a main that can also tank or heal…

I started a Monk and like all 3 specs but i’ve seen the posts of really low dps compared to everyone else for raiding and it made me a little concerned.

Is the dps so bad that it feels like it’s not a good time to be a monk main?

I will also be doing a lot of Mythic + and rbgs.

I am also considering Druid but then again am worried they won’t perform well as tanks in M+.

(I am pretty casual - Normal Raids and M+ 10-12)

WW is a little complicated to do well with, but that’s what makes it fun.

MW has never been in a particularly terrible place, but can be a little boring to play once you get used to it.

BRM is a tank with a nice toolkit, though lacking in self-sustain you aren’t doing much where you won’t have a healer, and you have a lot of things to keep you alive while you wait for the healers to remember you do actually need to be healed.

Yeah, it feels good. Plus if you’re a panda all mog stuff looks good on you.

Nothing feels good compared to legion or even WoD. There has just been way too much pruning.

I’m still enjoying the class playing mostly WW and BrM. BrM is just one of the strongest specs in game. WW is decent dps, but heavily reliant on CDs which makes it difficult on fights with lots of movement.

Windwalker is very good in mythic plus and arena but it does lack dps in raids and is just such a squishy target in rbgs so no one takes them

If you bring a monk in an rbg the monk is suppose to take the job of the rogue, going and harassing the off bases and the like.

Yes and no. The monk specs are all pretty decent/fun to play, and are usually competitive in most aspects of end game content.

However, if you play long enough, you tend to notice a few things that are crappy to think about. Speaking for WW specifically, the spec has taken a lot of changes/nerfs that wouldn’t fly were it any other spec. And then you notice the things that other specs have that should totally be in WW’s hand and not in those said specs cough cough Fury war’s snare immunity cough cough. The community for the most part has gotten used to taking nerfs to the face and just take them now, but most of the time we’re civil about it when they come up. And along with the nerfs/changes we get we are also on Blizz’s class design back burner unless someone discovers something fun like that time a really clever BrM one shot a WPvP raid group with Hot Trub and then Hot Trub got nerfed.

TL:DR; Monk is an acquired taste. It’s fun but, when fun is detected, Blizzard says hi.

Monk should suit you just fine for the stuff you said you wanted to do in game.

Monks fun. You have to work really hard to be competitive raid dps - usually by out playing and significantly outgearing the other dps in your group. WW Monks need a buff to their raid performance, period. They’re great in mythic + but compete with rogues which are just categorically better. They’re great healers, but don’t have the highly desirable utility other healers have and mana is definitely more of an issue for monks. Essence help with that, tho. Brewmasters are just great tanks, period.

This has been my favorite and most fun class since launch in MoP. Regardless of irrelevant rankings, opinions and comments, I will continue to main this class until the day I die or WoW dies, whichever comes first.

I’m in the same position honestly. I’m leveling a Monk from 110 right now. I haven’t played in 7 years but decided to get back into it. I would like to do raids with a guild eventually but I’m not sure if I can effectively contribute as a Monk.

I’ve only dabbled in WW, but the stupid AoE mechanic of having to put marks on different mobs to do damage just turns me off. Tab, attack, tab, attack, tab, attack. Sooo annoying. Take that away, I’d go back to my monk in a heartbeat.

^^ having to do this is the most annoying part of playing ww in mythic plus

Single target is fun with cooldowns…and sort of drags without them. The aoe aspect of monk is just funky…plus with the spinning crane kick nerf it feels just not that great. However, we do have good mobility and good on demand burst which can make all the difference in some scenarios. It does feel good in mythic + to leg sweep and FoF down a whole mob lol

For me it didn’t feel enjoyable to main after Uldir.

It’s just lacking a lot of what I found interesting in previous expansions and the experience now is very different in practice when you’re raiding or doing battlegrounds.

I don’t feel the same motivation to build a strong single target healing spec like I did in Legion or to really push my gameplay with Windwalker or even pug tank as a BrM.

It’s still a strong spec and a lot more engaging than most other specs but the gameplay isn’t as interesting anymore for me.

I’d rather learn how to play void form, lava shock traits on ele, glacial spike mage, etc.

You dont have to do this, i currently run 10-12s daily (5-10 runs daily) and i am usually top dps and never tab buff for icreased damage. If there are 1-3 i will but anything more its a dps loss.

At the end of a run i average 28-32k dps

Wouldn’t this be a significant nerf to your AoE dps, though? I’m thinking if you did the annoying tab thing, you’d be getting much better than your 32k dps. Just hate gimping myself. lol

Monk feels amazing, i love all 3 specs, do t listen to other people. If you like the class then main it. If you’re a good player you will always be needed. Dont be a statistics slave, remember everything is constantly changing. Nerfed today, buffed tomorrow. Pick a class that fits your personality, and if you main monk, good for you. Welcome to the least toxic class community.

This. I never tab and still melt faces.

Mythic+: Top-tier DPS. Top-tier tanking. Very average healing.
Raids: Top-tier tanking. Average DPS. Average healing.
World Content: Pull the whole zone and AoE it down as either DPS or tank.

I play solo pretty much 90% of the time. That said, I find there to be quite a bit of utility that supports the various needs of soloing. Healing is great single target, dps is fun and active, and if I need to be a meat shield, I can. If I feel the ened to get into a raid I can easily do so as a healer, which is my preference. Or I can queue up as dps and still get in somewhere.

I started Monk with Legion due to the changes they made to Priests and have been on the Monk since. The artwork for the armor is my least favorite of all the classes. There have been times when I considered switching just because the transmog sucks. I am certain there are people who love the traditional monk look and feel from a cosmetic perspective, but I do not. Comparing to any other class, the Monk definitely gets the shaft.

TLDR: Monk is a fun solo class with a lot of versatility.

Monk is a blast to play in M+ IMO. Raiding is becoming less fun this tier as we fall further down the meter. For me being competative is important, being able to play well and have it show on the meter is what keeps me coming back. Getting destroyed by classes that have 4 keys to press and 1 CD is aggravating.

I keep playing WW because its a very fun spec to play. But its time to gear up one of those classes thats crushing the meter.
