Do people think Warrior actually sucks?
Depends on your perspective on things really.
Having played a Warrior since Wrath on this end while also raiding the endgame since Dragon Soul at H/M (whatever the hardest was at the time) I’ve seen it go through ups and downs, in terms of viability right now warrior’s been in a solid space this expansion with both specs having builds capable of M+, PvP and Raid.
However this is all under the impression that you play warrior as a class and not as one spec, or one snowflake build that’s allergic to anything that isn’t one specific set of talents.
Historically M+ has always been a reroll to the fotm (flavour of the month) spec or class to get the titles with ease through the pug scene otherwise you find a group of likeminded people who don’t mind not playing the meta and you can still make it if you put the time into it. Most people do not play at such a level so they shouldn’t concern themselves about it.
Now is the warrior class perfect? Not in the slightest, the class tree is a mess of mandatory nodes with next to stuff all freedom of build expression allowing for no variety at all as you have maybe 1-2 free points here IF at all. So I believe a full rework of it should be done, removing the amount of mandatory nonsense and actually allowing warriors to pickup utility alongside limited throughput options as opposed to instead of.
Spec wise? Protection has an overbloat of ability resets and CDR in talents that should be reigned back to provide a better feedback loop in it’s onGCD gameplay for rage management.
Fury has an outdated AoE mechanic that’s also hardcapped, which was paired nicely with solid uncapped potential in some cooldowns however those copped multiple nerfs in S1.
The upcoming buffs kinda fixes the main issue providing some more uncapped power back to the spec.
Realistically it’s AoE needs to be reworked to be less restrictive and it’s interlink with ST damage needs to be broken for the spec to have a healthy rework going forward.
Fury’s ST is also way too attached to raging blow and all the additional effects of it need to be removed entirely or added to be done by BT and Execute instead to put it back to what it should be as a filler attack.
Arms for me personally doesn’t really have any major flaws outside of some slight button bloat in the lines of having skills do the same thing, but have 2 versions (ST and AoE) some of these make sense with Mortal Strike / Cleave, but others effects such as Rend/Thunderclap would benefit from having Thunderclap just replace rend outright when talented and having Warbreaker removed and having Colossus Smash just do what Warbreaker does to secondary targets so it’s not a forced talent choice to pick between having your main cooldown do AoE vs do slightly more to a single target.
I personally enjoy the current gameplay loop though especially the Colossus hero tree which is probably the most fun I’ve had in WoW in a long time.
Deppends on the person you ask.
I started playing Warrior this season, I’m in love with it.
But I’m not a high end player at all, usually I play until 2.5k io and AOTC. Some seasons I do a few mythic raid bosses, like 4 or 5 but that’s all.
So I don’t know about high end players or casuals, maybe for them the class is bad.
For what I’m doing, I think is fine.
Arms I think could use some survivability without much of a trade off, like an free IP with a CD attach to it or something like that.
Protection is just great.
Like, we have like no utility but until now I don’t think that was a problem for me.
Depends if pve or pvp. If pve, i have no clue but if pvp then its 100% a skill issue as warriors are arguably one of, if not the best, class in pvp currently.
Just bring back df arms warrior with ravager choice node and hero talents.
For fury, buff unbridled, remove slaughtering strikes, this talent is the reason why it’s so difficult to balance raging blow and bt, for no good reason since it’s not like it makes gameplay better, then buff rampage appropriately.
Also, uncap at least some of the fury toolkit.
I’m assuming you’re running into problems with fury in m+ because of aoe capping.
Yes it absolutely sucks. Fury should have sqrt scale like everyone else.
I suggest trying arms but I’m an arms enjoyer so I’m bias. Demolish will get you killed if you’re not careful but spamming cleave and doing big damage is great and the CDR you get on demolish from mortal strike and cleave is fantastic.
I’ve mained Warrior since vanilla and I can tell you it 100% sucks. But only because I’m the one controlling it.
