I am currently leveling a rogue, as you can see, and was wondering if Outlaw gets smoother? I tried all 3 specs and so far Sub feels the smoothest followed closely by sin and then outlaw is like 3 miles back. Every fight it feels like I’m out of energy for 60% of the fight and I don’t even end up doing as much damage as the other two specs. AOE is also a nightmare for me as outlaw right now, 25% haste baseline and it feels like 10% because I am mostly just auto-attacking with bladeflurry up…
Oh yea, once you have higher haste, outlaw feels way better. When you are running M+ or raids with bloodlust up you are constantly capped out on energy basically.
Yea but 25% right now and it feels bad, maybe something changes at a certain level.
Not sure how to interpret smooth but Outlaw has the best flow of the 3 specs imo.
Regarding the other 2 specs, it feels like you’re always waiting for energy or Dance to come off CD and they just aren’t that great for cleave, although Assassination can spread bleeds but it takes a while before that energy kicks in.
Funny because at my level its the opposite lol
This is because Sub is better than the other two specs for leveling. Outlaw is really about cleave and CDR and it doesn’t all come together till later levels. MG procs is also important and that too comes later for Outlaw.
Similar problem with Assassination as the spec flows better once it has all its tools unlocked at later levels.
Sub just performs better at lower levels and in later levels acquires more tools. Don’t misunderstand as all three specs perform better when geared properly. But Sub simply functions the best in terms of energy/combo point generation balance if you don’t have ideal gear.

I leveled as Outlaw as well and recognize the pain of leveling through. I switched to Outlaw only to keep my familiarization with it. Maybe stats are weird where your at because I’m at around 14% and I never get energy starved unless I’m at a bad roll and single targeting. It gets better though, I’d go Sub for questing then occasionally switching to Outlaw just to keep tabs on it. Sub was a smoother experience honestly.
Outlaw always feels kinda of bad. I wouldn’t say clunky, I would use the term unimpactful I think. The thing is it does decent damage (the best pve spec for rogue) but none of it is really tied together. 90% of it is spamming sinister strike and dismantle. Getting a pistol shot proc is probably as exciting as it gets. With outlaw it just feels like buttons come off cooldown so you press them in no particular order. (There is an order for maximizing but it just isn’t that punishing if you don’t do it).
Sub feels good because the entire spec and rotation ties together for burst windows. I just feels natural and how a rogue should play. Pressing a random ability with sub could cause huge issues. You need to really have a feel for the specs inner workings to get success out of it. It’s just feels satisfying when you do it well.
Sin is you just kinda poison and bleed things and wait for energy to spam mutilate and envenom. By and far the most boring spec in the game and seriously needs a rework. No conditionals no procs no cooldown windows. The only way you can screw this spec up is if you don’t have vendetta up for bloodlust.
My experience is the total opposite. I feel like I’m playing Wak-a-Mole. It’s a sporadic play style that has no flow to it.
