Mining has khaz’gorite ore, and it seems that herbalism’s equivalent is writhebark but it’s 10x less expensive. I haven’t noticed a difference in amount gathered or anything. With herbalism do we eventually get gathers that are worth that much or are we basically screwed?

right now mining has jewelcrafting proping it up.
herbalism has always needed some kind of rare herb to make it really valuable and we haven’t really had that.

It is a bit strange there isn’t a “rare” herbalism resource. But also it’s really nice not having one after always having one.
You def get more writhebark, and it’s triggered by finesse which seems to give you more. There’s also lush writhebark or affixed with rousing elements.
Khaz is a rare trigger, perception gives you a little more but 1 - 3 is usually the proc amount.
Prices has both around 200g for standard quality and low quality.
Khaz only shines at a 3 star quality because it’s near 1k per. But those are hard to mine.
You can get Propagating Roused Seedlings which are about 3k a pop right now if you aren’t inclined to use them. Perception doesn’t seem to apply to self grown herbs, so there’s a heavy incentive to sell them instead of use them. The main thing about Herbalism is Overload Elemental Herb on titan-touched nodes to print Awakened Orders and it’s easier to reset that as herbs seem more plentiful.
I’ve found that I get a lot more Writhebark than ore per node. I’m also finding more of the Titan-touched nodes than I do with mining. I guess it depends on how much knowledge you have and how much money you’re wanting to make from farming.
Meanwhile T3 writhebark is the same price as T2 khaz ore, and I’d argue it’s just as rare as T3 khaz’gorite ore. I’ll explain. While writhebark nodes are few and far between, khaz’gorite drops from any node at a small rate. Increasing your skill with herbalism won’t increase the amount of writhebark nodes you find, but increasing with mining will increase the rate at which you find khaz’gorite ore. So yeah it might be 1-3 per gather (vs 3-5 for writhebark), but it’s a chance from every node, which is pretty high from what I’ve noticed on my mining alt.
You can also buy and plant the Agitated Roused Seedling once a day, it summons a rare that you can kill and herb. Depending on what you have put points into, you may get all rank 3 herbs from him. Also, there are the Finesse and Perception phials you can make with alchemy to help increase the amount of goods you get. These are soulbound though, so if your miner/herber doesn’t have alchemy, you can get them through work orders.
